A long time employee of the Climax-Scotts Community Schools Maintenance Department who retired earlier this month, is calling her 10 years at C-S enjoyable.

Janet Sutherland, who was employed at International Paper for 35 years, took two years off before pursuing part-time employment and wound up at the local school district.

She quickly embraced her working environment and said there were many positives along the way.

Sutherland said she has always enjoyed children and her work allowed her to have daily interaction with students for 10 years, something she enjoyed.

She said watching those children grow into young adults “was fascinating.”

The long time Village of Climax resident said she also enjoyed working with her co-workers, noting a surprise party from co-workers is something she will always remember.

“I will always cherish the memories of the smiles from the kids, families and co-workers,” said Sutherland, who is also a trustee on the Climax Village Council.

The C-S School District is recognized for having well maintained and clean buildings and grounds. Sutherland said the C-S Maintenance Department takes pride in playing a role in that.

“I always believed  that if I wasn’t doing my best of keeping the school safe and clean, I wouldn’t have spent 10 years there,” said Sutherland.

As she settles into retirement, Sutherland reflected back on her time at both International Paper and the C-S School District as a positive time in her life.

“I feel that I’m blessed to have 35 years at International Paper and 10 years at Climax-Scotts Schools,” said the Village of Climax resident.
