Delton Man Turns Old Ford Show Room In Galesburg Into Location To Display Classic Cars

A Delton man who has a love for classic cars, has converted an old automobile showroom and dealership in Galesburg that has been vacant for years, into a location to house his classic cars for the public to enjoy.

Ron Daniels, the owner of Go Go Auto Parts, an auto salvage company in Delton, said the location he was storing his personnel collection of classic cars at near his business in Delton, was getting full, so he started searching for a location.

He wanted to open a place to not only house his collection of 35-40 classic cars, but offer others a chance to view the cars at no cost.

He discovered the old building that used to house the Galesburg Ford dealership on Michigan Avenue, and purchased it in about March, 2014.

Second Earth Quake In Less Than 2 Months Startles Many In Area; Possibly An Aftershock From May 2nd Quake

California residents may be used to feeling minor earth quakes throughout the year. Maybe residents in Climax, Scotts, Galesburg and the surrounding area should start getting used to regular tremors also.

After residents in the area were startled by an earth quake that measured 4.2 on the Richter scale May 2 that had an epicenter near Scotts, another earth quake on a smaller scale rattled the area again Tuesday with two tremors.

The U.S. Geological Survey Tuesday confirmed that a 3.3 magnitude earthquake affected the State of Michigan seven miles northeast of Union City at 11:42 a.m. Tuesday.

Assessments are still ongoing, but there are no reported injuries or damages at this time.

Fiesta Balloons Are Unique, But They Can Be Costly To Operate

Each year when the U.S. Nationals Hot Air Balloon Championship & Air Show returns to the area, it gives us another unique opportunity to learn about this colorful, popular sport. It also gives us a chance to learn something interesting about the pilots and their crew.

The larger, fiesta balloons naturally draw plenty of attention and create an added interest to this colorful event.

Kenny Weiner, of the Seasons Balloon Team, headquartered out of Akron, Ohio, with Celebration Aviation corporate offices in Tampa, FL, is a pilot of one of the four unique balloons the Seasons Balloon Team brings to Battle Creek - the Mr. Winter, Mr. Pumpkin, Miss Daisy, and Sunny Boy balloons.

Weiner, who is in his ninth year as a balloon pilot, said a typical balloon is filled with about 120,000 cubic feet of air, but Miss Daisy takes on about 200,000 cubic feet of air, weighing about 1000 pounds in the bag.

And ballooning can be expensive. Weiner, who has acquired over 275 hours as pilot in command and is participating in his fifth Hot Air Balloon Championship air show in Battle Creek, said a typical balloon can cost between $20,000-$25,000, but the larger fiesta balloons can have a price tag anywhere from $60,000-$100,000, and even go as high as $250,000. He notes the more complex the balloon and the more the shape gets away from the general round form, the price increases.

Report From The Chief Of Fire Bureau On Scotts School

On June 9, 1950, we stated in the Crescent that the State Fire Marshall inspected the school at Scotts and ordered it closed and we would follow with his official letter the following week.

This information was given us through our local fire marshall, Harold Smith, who said that the second floor could not be used at all and the lower floor only by installing an outside heating system.

The official letter did not arrive until this past week, so could not be published sooner.

Those who were out to defeat the school building plan made very good use of this fact for propaganda purposes as you probably personally know.

WKZO- TV Joins Network July 9th

Western Michigan’s new television station - WKZO-TV - will begin transmission of regularly scheduled programs July 9, John E. Fetzer, President of the Fetzer Broadcasting Company, announced yesterday.

The station has been televising test patterns and afternoon movies for the last two months.

In serving the area with a full schedule of programs WKZO-TV will become a basie station in the Columbia Broadcasting System, but a few programs will be picked up from the other national net-works.

Being designated as a basic CBS television outlet means that the local station will become one of 20 key network stations selected to carry all top CBS programs, Fetzer said.

All CBS network programs wil be transmitted to Kalamazoo through a series of relay towers.

Programs seen here will be picked up from the coaxial cable running into WJBK-TV in Detroit. From there the programs will be beamed to two relay towers and finally to the local transmitter tower located four miles east of Plainwell.

BASE BALL - CLIMAX

The ball game last Sunday with the Clover Leaf Giants of Battle Creek proved tough going for the locals.

The Giants a fast colored team from the Food City seemed to be able to hit the ball regardless where it came or what kind of stuff Budrow had on it and coupled with errors, gave them ten runs while the locals made three.

Luck has been breaking bad for the local boys lately, the last two games which would ordinarily have been won by the home team were both dropped by a heavy score, but they are due for a break in their favor which will put them in a winning column.
