Paraprofessional pleads guilty to assaulting first grade student with shoe

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido has announced that Kimberley Horen, a former paraprofessional at Forest Park Elementary in Eastpointe, pled guilty as charged to Assault and Battery for striking a child with a shoe.

On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, Horen, a 55-year-old woman from Eastpointe, pled guilty to Assault and Battery, a 93-day misdemeanor before Judge Kathleen G. Galen in Eastpointe’s 38th District Court.

Upon successful completion of 12-months probation, continued anger management counseling, and Wyatt’s Law registration, Horen’s conviction will be reduced to Attempt Assault and Battery.

Horen is scheduled for a pre-sentence hearing on Friday, September 19.

Last October, a parent reported her 6-year-old child, who is autistic, was assaulted by a member of the staff at his school. After an internal investigation by Eastpointe Schools Administration, Horen was found to have removed the child’s shoe and used it to strike them in the head. Horen was fired as a result of the incident.
