Prosecutor’s office to determine if Detroit juvenile is tried as an adult after fatal car crash

A 16-year-old juvenile is being detained by Macomb County authorities after allegedly crashing a vehicle at a high rate of speed into another vehicle while fleeing from police on Saturday.

The collision resulted in the death of 28-year-old Alex Habib of Madison Heights.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled to be held in the Macomb County Juvenile Court on Monday but Referee Anthony Scotta granted the prosecutor’s office request for a sSpecial adjournment to allow for a thorough review of the facts to determine whether the teen should be tried as an adult.

Scotta denied the juvenile bond and ordered him to remain in the Juvenile Justice Center pending the next preliminary hearing scheduled for Friday.
