Applicants sought for AGC, SBM board of commissioners


The Michigan Supreme Court is seeking qualified applicants for appointment to three volunteer positions: one seat on the State Bar of Michigan Board of Commissioners and two vacancies on the Attorney Grievance Commission (AGC).

The deadline to apply for both positions is July 23.

To apply for the board of commissioners post, email a resume or CV (in Word or PDF format) and a completed personal background investigation consent form to jobapps@courts.mi.gov with “State Bar Commissioner” in the subject line. 

To apply for the AGC positions, send a resume or CV and the personal background investigation consent form to jobapps@courts.mi.gov. 

Use “AGC Attorney Member” or “AGC Layperson Member” in the subject line. 

The consent form may be signed electronically or printed and scanned.

Applicants unable to email materials should call the Administrative Counsel’s Office at 517-373-1239 for assistance.

Associations to honor out-going presidents at annual event


The Wolverine Bar Association, the Association of Black Judges of Michigan, the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association and the Black Women Lawyers Association of Michigan will celebrate and extend gratitude to their presidents for another year of commitment and service during the 2024-25 bar year.  

The 2025 Presidents’ Dinner will take place Wednesday, July 24, at The Conservatory at Book Tower,.

The event begins at 5:30 with an open bar cocktail hour followed by a seated dinner. 

The keynote speaker will be  former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Marcia L. Fudge.

Cost for the event is $125 for members and $150 for non-members.

Detroit Mercy Law alumni plan cookout


The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law’s Association of Black Law Alumni (ABLA) will host the 5th Annual ABLA Summer Cookout on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 2 to 5 p.m. 

Detroit Mercy Law alumni, students and friends of ABLA are invited to the event that will take place in the Student Parking Lot at Detroit Mercy Law, 651 East Jefferson in Detroit.
