Library voters face 0.85 mill, $1,610,000 bond proposal August 5

By Bruce Rolfe

Galesburg-Charleston Township Memorial District Library voters will face  a 0.85 mill bond proposal to borrow up to $1,610,000 for improvements at the local library in a special election August 5.

Registered voters in the City of Galesburg and Charleston Township can cast ballots August 5 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at their respective precincts.

The project will address  outdated items, provide enhancements and improvements, upgrade areas to meet current code, and provide needs that will benefit patrons for years into the future.

The maximum number of years the bonds may be outstanding, exclusive of refunding, is 12 years.

According to information from the library, the current project debt levy will remain at 0.85 mills for the first nine years of the levy and decline to 0.84 mills for the remaining three years. Interest rates could fall and the District Library could also pay off the debt sooner.

The Galesburg-Charleston Township Memorial District Library has more information about the bond proposal on its website at https://www.galesburgcharlestonlibrary.org.
