Juvenile is detained, facing charges for allegedly throwing fireworks at Sterlingfest

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido has announced that a 16-year-old is being detained and facing serious charges for allegedly twice throwing fireworks towards people at Sterlingfest last Friday.
It is alleged that the juvenile threw fireworks into two groups of people.

The first device was thrown in the Sterlingfest carnival area where a Sterling Heights Police Officer’s arm was burned and cut, and his partner K-9 was noticeably affected by the noise. The second device was thrown near the BP gas station into a group of people exiting the event.

The juvenile is facing three charges:

Explosives – Placing Near Property Causing Physical Injury, a 25-year felony;
Explosives – Possession with Intent to Terrorize, a 10-year felony; and
Police Officer – Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing Causing Injury, a 4-year felony.

The 16-year-old is being detained at the Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center. A pretrial hearing is scheduled on August 6.

"At a community event meant to bring people together, a juvenile allegedly threw mortar fireworks, creating an extremely dangerous situation. We’re taking this matter seriously and will pursue appropriate action,” Lucido said.
