Calhoun County seeks resident input to shape the future of recycling

The Calhoun County Recycling and Solid Waste Department invites residents to participate in a series of upcoming stakeholder meetings designed to shape the future of the county’s recycling program. Department leaders want to better understand how to make recycling more accessible and learn what recycling services are most important to residents.
The meetings are especially geared toward rural residents without curbside recycling access, but all interested community members are encouraged to attend. Three stakeholder meetings are scheduled:

Newton Township Community Building

Wednesday, August 6 | 10–11:30 a.m.
11003 9½ Mile Road, Ceresco

Sheridan Township Hall

Wednesday, August 6 | 2–3:30 p.m.
13355 29 Mile Road, Albion

Eckford Community Center

Thursday, August 7 | 10–11:30 a.m.
99 Maple Road, Homer

Residents who are unable to join in person can complete the online survey at https://forms.office.com/g/HytmZ1Grxa.

Separate meetings are taking place for business owners throughout the County. A separate online form is available for business owners to complete regarding commercial recycling interests, as this is an area the County Recycling Department could grow into. https://forms.office.com/g/LrNsTbRLht.

These stakeholder meetings are part of the County’s Materials Management Plan Work Program. All Michigan counties are required to complete a Materials Management Plan after changes to the State’s Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act and Part 115. The plans seek to increase recycling rates to offset expansions and new development of landfills in Michigan. As the Calhoun County Recycling and Solid Waste Department seeks to increase the county’s recycling rate, these stakeholder meetings are a critical aspect of reaching that goal.
