The Galesburg-Augusta Board of Education recently approved a contract extension for current Superintendent Dr. Lindsey Newton at the board’s June 16 meeting.
The term of the contract covers from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2027, subject to extension, non-renewal and termination.
The board unanimously approved Newton’s contract for the 2025-2026 school year and an extension of an additional year covering the 2026-2027 school year.
According to the new contract, Newton’s just completed contract for the 2024-2025 school year shows a base salary of $130,372.
The G-A Superintendent’s base salary will be reviewed annually and increased by 3% each year contingent upon a satisfactory performance evaluations.
The new contract also calls for a longevity bonus of 3% each year of the contract term, payable at the end of each contract year. The longevity bonus will not be added to the superintendent’s base salary.
As part of Newton’s total salary compensation, she will also receive a tax-deferred annuity payment in the amount of 8% each year of the contract into a 403b plan under the superintendent’s direction.
The inclusion of a mileage stipend of $1000 was made for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 years.
The contract is subject to renegotiation with the board.
Newton, a 2002 graduate of G-A High School, just completed her first year as the local school district’s superintendent.
She previously served as the G-A High School principal for two years before the board hired her as the superintendent.
The G-A graduate said she was very happy the board had confidence in her by offering a contract extension.
“One year under my belt as the superintendent at G-A Community Schools and I can officially say that I love ‘the job’ and am proud to serve our community, families, staff and students daily! I’m thankful for an extension for another year on my contract, giving me a three year contract through the 2027- 2028 school year.”
Superintendent Evaluation Discussed
Because the G-A Board of Education updated the Superintendent evaluation process to a calendar year last year, Superintendent Dr. Lindsey Newton did not receive an evaluation rating.
School Board President Jessica Eberstein said the board goes into closed session quarterly to discuss Newton’s goals. The mid-year meeting was just held. She said Newton’s evaluation will not be completed until December.
Eberstein said the G-A School Board had training for the new evaluation tool last August and will perform the evaluation.
