Approximately 200 chickens were lost in a barn fire on Q Avenue between 42nd and 40th Street in Climax Township August 28 according to fire authorities.
Climax Township Fire Chief Scott Smith said a barn housing approximately 300 chickens was totally destroyed by fire. The cause of the fire was undetermined.
Smith said the barn was fully involved when the Climax Township Fire Department arrived.
Climax Township Assistant Fire Chief Sean Perrin said a second barn nearby was saved.
Galesburg-Charleston Township, Pavilion Township and Leroy Township assisted at the scene.
