Jury trial for Village of Climax murder adjourned to November 5

Jury selection for a trial in the Village of Climax murder case scheduled to begin September 16 has been adjourned.

Kalamazoo County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Williams said on August 29th that the parties in the case submitted a joint request for adjournment of the jury trial. He said the reason for the adjournment is a necessary witness will be unavailable. 

Williams said Judge Paul Bridenstine granted this request, and the case is now set for a jury trial on November 5th. He adds there is also a final settlement conference scheduled for October 31 at 10 a,m. 

According to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, a female and dog were found deceased in the 100 block of North Main Street October 26, 2024.

According to court documents, Adam Gerard Lyons, of 120 North Main Street, Climax, was charged with open murder for the alleged killing of Nichole Doerschler, two weapons and felony firearm charges and one charge of killing/torturing an animal in the third degree at an arraignment hearing October 29.

The jury selection and trial will be held in the 9th Circuit Court in Court 5400 before Judge Paul Bridenstine.
