After graduation from U of M, Goldsmith went on to attend law school at Wayne State University.

Goldsmith was a health care and litigation attorney. A life master in bridge, he was a decades-long fan of Detroit area sports with an enduring passion for the University of Michigan football team.

Goldsmith is survived by his wife of 38 years of Sherry Goldsmith; children Susan Goldsmith, Ellen (Sam Levitt) Goldsmith, Mark (the late Katlyn) Ruda, and Michael Ruda; grandchildren Harrison and Davis Finney, Jacob, Zach, and Rachel Levitt, and Benjamin Ruda; sister-in-law Judy Goldsmith; and neices Meryl Goldsmith and Lindsey (Mark Weiss) Goldsmith-Weiss.
