Settlement conference in murder case adjourned to November 26

By Bruce Rolfe

A settlement conference that was scheduled for October 31 in the Village of Climax homicide case has been adjourned to November 26 at 1:30 p.m. in Court 5400.

Kalamazoo County Assistant Prosecutor Jeff Williams said a settlement conference is the last chance for a defendant to plead before a trial and to handle any last-minute issues which
might impact a trial. Williams adds both attorneys and the defendant would be present.

If there would have been a settlement conference and a jury trial was scheduled to follow, Williams said jurors would have been summoned to appear the morning of November 5 when jury selection was scheduled to start. This would have been followed by opening statements and testimony once a jury is selected. However Williams said the November 5 date was also removed from the schedule.

According to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, a female and dog were found deceased in the 100 block of North Main Street October 26, 2024.

According to court documents, Adam Gerard Lyons, of 120 North Main Street, Climax, was charged with open murder for the alleged killing of Nichole Doerschler, two weapons and felony firearm charges and one charge of killing/torturing an animal in the third degree at an arraignment hearing October 29, 2024.

The settlement conference rescheduled for November 26 will be held in the 9th Circuit Court in Court 5400 before Judge Paul Bridenstine.
