Community Center receives special award

Because the Scotts Community Center sponsors a weekly free food pantry, Loaves & Fishes of Kalamazoo, which supplies this pantry and nine others, presented the Center with the Anne Wend Lipsey Food Justice Award.

Receiving this honor in person was Angie Wilson of Scotts who volunteers and operates this community service since she began it several years ago. The award was given to Angie at the WMU Fetzer Center on September 25.

The award recognizes organizations that go above and beyond in the fight for food justice.

This special award plate was then presented to King Perkins, President of the Pride of Scotts at their recent monthly meeting.

The food pantry is open every Thursday from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

When fresh produce is available local growers such as Tillers International donate surplus products to be given away.
