Texas man arraigned on charges related to deadly shooting at Star Auto Sales in Shelby Township

Macomb County authorities have announced that 46-year-old Terrance Jermaine Sandles, of Houston, TX, was arraigned on multiple charges including first degree premeditated murder after allegedly killing two men at Star Auto Sales in Shelby Township.

Sandles allegedly entered the Star Auto Sales office last Friday and shot and killed two men during a robbery. The men were identified as Marvan Batoo, 40, of Shelby Township, and Ghaith Baban, 48, of Clinton Township.

An employee discovered the victims and immediately contacted authorities, reporting that Sandles had a dispute with Star Auto related to a vehicle purchase.

It is further alleged that investigators identified Sandles through the vehicle at the center of the dispute.

A police investigation led officers to a hotel in Romulus where Sandles was arrested. Investigators allegedly recovered evidence linking him to the crime and also discovered a large quantity of cocaine.

On Monday, Sandles was arraigned before Magistrate Christopher Alayan in the 41A District Court on the following charges:

Two Counts: Homicide – Murder First Degree – Premeditated, a life without parole felony

Two Counts: Armed Robbery, a life or any term of years felony

One Count: Controlled Substances – Delivery/Manufacture 50-449 Grams, a 20-year felony

One Count: Weapons – Firearms – Possession by a Prohibited Person, a 5-year felony

One Count: Weapons – Ammunition – Possession by a Prohibited Person, a 5-year felony

One Count: Weapons – Carrying Concealed, a 5-year felony

Seven Counts: Weapons - Felony Firearm, each a 2-year felony, consecutive to main charges

Sandles also has a Habitual Offender - Fourth Offense Notice, an aggravating sentencing factor.

He was ordered held without bond and is in custody at the Macomb County Jail.

Sandles is scheduled for a probable cause conference on Monday, November 24.
