Biernat reappointed county’s chief judge

The Michigan Supreme Court has reappointed the Judge James M. Biernat, Jr. for an additional two-year term as chief judge for the Macomb County Circuit Court, Macomb County Probate Court and 42nd District Courts.

Justices this month also named Biernat to serve as chief judge for the 38th District Court in Eastpointe for the next two years.

Biernat was appointed to the bench in 2011 and elected as a judge in 2012. He began serving as chief judge in 2015 upon the retirement of former Chief Judge John C. Foster.

Biernat has been reappointed as chief judge every two years since 2016.

During his tenure as chief judge, Biernat has overseen court renovation projects that resulted in moving all circuit and probate court operations to one downtown courthouse location.

There has been the creation of a Sobriety Treatment Court as well as the addition of new judges.

“It is my honor to once again be appointed chief judge of these Macomb County Courts,” Biernat said. “Although I am proud of all the courts have accomplished during these past two years, I know we will continue to make progress in the administration of justice.”
