Man arraigned on charges after allegedly hitting school safety officer and principal with vehicle

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido has announced that 45-year-old Lemuel Young was arraigned on charges after he allegedly intentionally stuck a school safety officer and principal with his vehicle.

Last Thursday, Lucido said, vehicles were blocking the bus lane at Bemis Jr. High School in Sterling Heights.

It is alleged that the school safety officer approached Young’s vehicle and asked him to move, but he refused. When the officer walked in front of the vehicle, Young moved forward, striking the victim’s legs.

The principal was called to assist and also asked Young to move, but he again refused. While the principal was in front of the vehicle, Young struck him three times.

Last Friday, Young was arraigned before Magistrate Jean M. Cloud in the 41A District Court on two counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, each a 4-year felony.

Magistrate Cloud set Young’s bond at $10,000 cash/surety only, no 10%. He is also ordered to have no contact with the complaining witnesses, not to enter the premises of Bemis Jr. High School and not to possess any weapons.

Young faces another court appearance on Thursday.
