JV boys basketball team off to 2-0 start


The Galesburg-Augusta JV boys basketball team got off to a 2-0 start to the season by defeating Saugatuck December 5, 60-15 at G-A High School.

G-A started the season with a 45-36 win over Battle Creek Pennfield December 2.

Hunter Pritchard scored 16 points and Connor Welker added 13 points to lead the 2-0 Rams in the win over Saugatuck.

G-A JV Basketball Team Wins Season Opener


The Galesburg-Augusta JV boys basketball team secured a win in the season opener, 45-36 over Battle Creek Pennfield December 2 at G-A High School.

Connor Welker led a trio of Rams in double figure scoring with 14 points. Hunter Pritchard added 12 points and Vincent Finedell chipped in 11 points.

Rams enter win column after dropping opener

Four players reached double figure scoring, helping the Galesburg-Augusta boys varsity basketball team to a 65-28 win over Saugatuck December 5 at G-A High School.

A 25-point effort in the second quarter behind nine points from Giovonni Evans and eight points from Dontrell Bowden helped the Rams pull away.
G-A led 40-12 at halftime.

Bowden scored 16 points, Gavin Lock, behind four three-point baskets including a trio in the fourth quarter, added 12 points, Evans chipped in with 11 points and Hayden Pritchard scored 10 points.

G-A Drops Opener to Pennfield


The Galesburg-Augusta varsity basketball team could not overcome a 41-point effort by Pennfield’s Jonathon Lake in a season opening 80-30 setback December 2 at G-A High School.

Lake started strong, scoring 20 of Pennfield’s 32 points in a first quarter barrage that helped the Panthers to a 32-8 advantage after one quarter.

Despite scoring just two points in the second quarter, Lake’s Panthers extended the lead to 45-19 at halftime.

Lake continued his scoring surge with a 14-point third quarter, helping the visitors to a 73-26 advantage entering the final stanza.

Giovonni Evans’ 17 points led G-A in scoring.

G-A shot a cool 26 percent overall (9-34) from the floor including a 3-for-13 effort from the three-point stripe.

The Rams had 20 turnovers.

Five place for G-A at own tournament


Five members of the Galesburg-Augusta wrestling team placed at the 16-team G-A Individual Tournament December 6 at G-A High School.

Owen Cowles (126-pound weight class), placed first, Jonah Ranes (175), placed second, Jaxsen Ray (144) earned a third place finish and Lance Shoup (150) and Kameron Prince (285) both placed fourth.

Cowles, who was 3-0, Ranes, who was 3-1, and Shoup, who was 3-2, won three matches by pins. Jaxsen Ray, who was 4-1, won three matches by major decisions and a fourth by a 17-13 decision and Kameron Prince, who was 4-2, won four matches by pins.

G-A Splits at SAC Dual


The Galesburg-Augusta wrestling team earned a split in a SAC Dual at Lawton December 3.

The Rams fell to Division 3 No. 10 ranked Constantine 51-27 and recorded a 41-36 win over Lawton.

Jaxsen Ray (144-pound weight class), by a pin in 3:48, Colton Robertson (150) by a  11-3 major decision, Jonah Ranes (175) by a 17-2 technical fall, Owen Cowles (132), by a pin in 55 seconds and Brecken Vickery (120), by a forfeit, recorded the wins for G-A.

In two extra matches that did not count towards the final score, Caitlyn Valadez (190) earned two wins by pins and Jaxsen Kasten won two matches by pins.

Addison Walden and Alexis Thomas each lost one match.

Earning wins for G-A in the win over Lawton was Ray (144), by a pin in 1:58, Lance Shoup (157) by a pin in 5:19, Robertson (150), by a 8-7 decision, Ranes (175) by a 11-5 decision, Donaven Tiffany (126) by a 20-2 technical fall, and Kameron Prince (285), Vickery (120),  and Cowles (132) all by forfeits.

One Places for G-A Girls at Tournament


Galesburg-Augusta High School senior Caitlyn Valadez earned a second place finish at the East Jackson Girls Tournament December 5.

Valadez (190-pound weight finished with a 3-1 record on the day. 

Alexis Thomas (155) went 2-2.

A third G-A wrestler was held out of competition because of a minor injury.
