C-S boys basketball team answers season opening loss with two wins

A strong defensive effort in the first half helped the Climax-Scotts boys varsity basketball team to a 47-33 win over Athens December 11 at Athens.

C-S improves to 2-1 with the win.

The Panthers, who led 12-8 after one quarter, held the home team to two free throws and a three-point basket in the second quarter and took a 26-13 lead into halftime.

C-S extended the lead to 14 points (39-25) after three quarters.

Athens took advantage of 15 more free throw opportunities, knocking down 15-of-28 attempts while C-S was 4-for-13.

Mason Shannon was the lone Panther to reach double figures in scoring with 15 points.

C-S Secures 1st Win

The Climax-Scotts boys varsity basketball team used strong defense and a big start to secure its first win of the young season, a 51-16 victory over Jackson Christian December 9 at C-S Jr./Sr. High School.

Led by Mason Shannon’s seven points, six Panthers entered the scoring column in the first quarter to take a commanding 21-2 lead after one quarter.

 C-S’ strong defense continued in the second quarter when the home team held the visitors to two baskets and a free throw for a 33-8 lead at halftime.

A pair of three-point baskets by Caleb Lanham was Jackson Christian’s only offense in the third quarter and C-S took a 46-14 lead into the fourth quarter.

Shannon and Maddox Wyman each finished with 12 points and Tye Chambers and Liam LaSala both scored eight points.
