Association to visit Zekelman Holocaust Memorial Center


The Diversity Committee of the Eastern District of Michigan Bar Association will observe the International Holocaust Rememberance with a visit to The Zekelman Holocaust Memorial Center on Sunday, February 1, from noon to 3:30 p.m.

Participants will hear from a Holocaust survivor, tour the museum, and reflect afterwards by sharing a meal at a next door venue.  

The Zekelman Holocaust Memorial Center is located at  28123 Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills.  The survivor talk will start promptly at noon.  Participants should plan to arrive no later than 11:45 a.m.

Cost for the museum and meal is $33 for adults and $26 for kids.  Cost for the museum only is $8.  To register, visit https://edmibar.org and click on “events.”

CDAM?webinar to discuss challenging evidence in litigation Jan. 30


The Criminal Defense Association of Michigan will present the webinar “To 404(b) or Not to 404(b)...That is the Question” online Friday, January 30, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.

Knowing how to effectively use and challenge evidence is critical to litigation success. During this interactive session, presenter Mary Chartier, of Chartier & Nyamfukudza PLC, will discuss best practices for challenging other act evidence and using other act evidence to defend your client. This session will explore strategies to achieve the best results for defending clients.

Attendees will learn about investigating potential other act evidence; strategizing uses for other act evidence at trial; preparing for government objections at trial related to the defense using other act evidence; motions to challenge the government's proposed use of other act evidence; and reviewing the differences between MRE 404(b) and statutory other act evidence in domestic violence and sexual assault cases.

Meeting and mixer hosted by SBM section Jan. 29


The Insurance and Indemnity Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan will conduct its next meeting & mixer on Thursday, January 29, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The HUB Stadium, 2550 Innovation Drive in Auburn Hills.

After a brief council meeting, everyone will enjoy food and drinks, football bowling, and axe throwing.
