C-S wrestling team loses two dual matches


The Climax-Scotts wrestling team dropped two dual matches at the Olivet Tri Meet January 21.

Eaton Rapids defeated C-S 71-12 and the Panthers fell to Olivet 47-33.

Gixxer Blair (175-pound weight class), by a forfeit, and Malcolm Smith (215), by a pin in 1:07, claimed the wins for C-S against Eaton Rapids. 

Lincoln Bartholomew (120), by a pin in 1:38, Jacques Porlier (144), by a pin in 40 seconds, Dean Parks (150), by a 21-14 decision, Gixxer Blair (175), by a pin in 2:47 and Malcolm Smith, (215) by a pin in 1:06, won head to head bouts and Tyler Bradley (113) won by a forfeit against Olivet.

Cold shooting sinks Lady Panthers


The Climax-Scotts girls varsity basketball team couldn’t overcome cold shooting in a 30-24 setback at Mendon January 20.

Both teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm, with each team scoring 10 points in a quarter once.

C-S, now 7-3, shot just 23.6 percent (9-38) from the floor, including 1-for-7 from the three-point stripe.

Mendon led 7-4 after one quarter and 12-8 at halftime before C-S pulled to within 20-18 after three quarters.

Alyse Langs, Holly Talbert and Annabelle Edwards each scored five points to lead C-S in scoring.

Addy Reeves snagged 11 rebounds and Annabelle Edwards added 10 boards.

Girls JV basketball team drops close battle


The Climax-Scotts girls JV basketball team dropped to 3-3 with a 28-26 loss to Mendon at Mendon January 20 in a game that went down to the last second.

C-S coach Janae Gibson said her team had a good look at a last second shot to tie the game but was unable to knot the game.

C-S led by a 6-2 count after one quarter, 12-11 at halftime and trailed by a 18-16 margin after three quarters.

Alyssa Morrison’s 12 points led C-S in scoring.

Panthers can’t overcome turnovers,
cold shooting in loss to Mendon


Mendon broke open a close game with a 21-7 surge in the third quarter and went on to post a 61-45 victory over the Climax-Scotts boys varsity basketball team January 21 at Mendon.

C-S trailed the Hornets by a 24-18 count at halftime, but managed just two baskets from the floor and three free throws in the third quarter.

The Panthers, now 3-7, committed eight turnovers and shot just 20 percent (2-10) overall from the floor in the third quarter.

C-S struggled with turnovers (22 miscues) and cold shooting (27 percent overall) the entire game. 

C-S knocked down 9-of-37 (24 percent) two-point attempts and was 5-of-14 (36 percent) from distance.

Mendon led by a 12-10 count after one quarter and 24-18 at halftime but outscored C-S 21-7 in the third frame to take a 45-15 lead into the final stanza.

Nyle Sattler scored 11 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter including a trio of three-point baskets.

Liam LaSala and Tye Chambers each added 10 points.

Nyle Sattler added eight rebounds and Liam LaSala pulled down seven boards.

Dane Sattler handed out four assists and Nyle Sattler had three blocked shots.

Strong second half lifts Mendon over JVs


Mendon outscored the Climax-Scotts JV boys basketball team 29-19 in the second half and went on to record a 50-32 win over the Panthers January 21 at Mendon.

C-S, now 8-2, trailed the Hornets 14-10 after one quarter and 21-13 at halftime.

Blake Wechsler, who scored all eight of C-S’ points in the fourth quarter, led the Panthers in scoring with 12 points. Alexander Albarran-Aguilar added 10 points.
