The address was delivered by Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel and Deputy County Executive John Paul Rea, highlighting how collaborative leadership has driven sustained progress over the past 15 years.
Hackle said the presentation reflected on Macomb County’s transition to a new executive form of government created by voters and how that structural change ushered in a new era of leadership centered on cooperation, fiscal responsibility and results-driven governance.
Rather than focusing on political differences, the address emphasized the value of working together around shared goals.
Hackel and Rea shared examples of how Macomb County has maintained strong internal financial discipline, delivered balanced budgets and successfully executed major infrastructure and economic development projects. A key focus was the County’s ability to bring 27 municipalities together through the Make Macomb Your Home branding initiative, aligning communities around a shared identity and vision for growth.
The presentation also underscored the importance of regional and state partnerships. Examples included increased local road funding, growth in the defense industry, securing a new fighter mission at Selfridge Air National Guard Base and leadership in advancing the Blue Economy. These collaborative efforts have contributed to Macomb County’s economic expansion, growing from approximately $33 billion to $57 billion annually over the past 15 years.
The address served as a case study in how inclusive, collaborative leadership can strengthen communities, the region and the economy, particularly during times of division.
