The Climax-Scotts boys varsity basketball team gave another blue collar effort at Galesburg-Augusta February 2, but fell short 49-34.
Already missing scoring threat Mason Shannon with a fractured ankle most of the season, the Panthers learned Hunter LaSala, another inside scoring threat and strong rebounder, will be lost for the remainder of the season for ineligibility reasons.
C-S, now 3-9, struggled offensively most of the first quarter.
Liam LaSala sank a free throw with 5:34 left in the first quarter but the Panthers did not connect from the floor until LaSala scored with 3:18 left to pull C-S to within 9-3.
C-S settled for a 15-7 deficit after one quarter.
The Panthers took their only lead of the game at the 2:52 mark of the second quarter when LaSala scored for a 18-17 C-S lead.
The two teams were tied 19-19 at halftime.
Both teams struggled with turnovers (4 by each team) and cold shooting in the third quarter.
Despite shooting 23 percent overall from the floor, C-S trailed the Rams by only three points, 31-28, entering the fourth quarter.
A basket by Dane Sattler with 7:56 left in the fourth quarter pulled the visitors to within 31-30, but C-S managed just two more baskets from the floor the rest of the way.
Tye Chambers’ 12 points and seven rebounds led C-S. Dane Sattler and Liam LaSala each chipped in with nine points.
Giovanni Evans scored 16 points to go with nine rebounds and four steals to lead the Rams.
C-S connected on just 25 percent of its floor attempts overall. The Panthers were 2-for-21 (10 percent) from the three-point stripe and shot 33 percent (12-36) from two-point range.
The Panthers had 17 turnovers.
G-A enjoyed a strong rebounding night, outrebounding C-S 51-34, including a 19-12 upper hand under the offensive glass.
G-A connected on 35.1 percent (20-57) of its attempts from the floor overall, including a 2-for-19 mark (10.5 percent) from long distance. G-A shot much better from two-point range, making 47.4 percent
(18-38) of its attempts.
G-A had 15 turnovers.

C-S Falls To Gobles
Cold shooting stretches in the second and fourth quarters and a strong second half by Gobles led to a 51-34 loss for the Climax-Scotts varsity boys basketball team January 28 at Gobles High School.
C-S, behind 3-of-5 shotting from the three-point line, got off to a good start in the first quarter, taking a 15-8 lead into the second quarter.
However the Panthers managed to make just 2-of-10 attempts overall from the floor in the second quarter when Gobles moved in front 23-20 at halftime.
The offensive lull continued in the third and fourth quarters, preventing C-S from overtaking the Tigers, who outscored the Panthers 28-14 in the second half.
C-S managed just a pair of baskets from the floor and two free throws in the third quarter for a 38-26 deficit entering the fourth quarter and shot just 18 percent (2-11) overall from the floor in the fourth quarter.
For the game C-S shot 27 percent (12-45) overall from the floor, including a 4-for-16 effort from three-point range.
Just four Panthers entered the scoring column, with Liam LaSala and Hunter LaSala each scoring 12 points. Tye Chambers added nine points.
Nyle Sattler had seven rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots and Dane Sattler had five assists.
