The Climax-Scotts wrestling team was conference champions and had 10 wrestlers place at the SCAA Conference Tournament February 7 at Mendon.
C-S had four weight class conference champions and six other wrestlers who were runnerup.
Conference champions were Lincoln Bartholomew (120-pound weight class), Jacques Porlier (144), Malcolm Smith (215) and Cooper Dinse (heavyweight).
Runnerup placers were Tyler Bradley (113), Nate Arnett (126), Dean Parks (150), Bryce Birkam (165), Ethan Seage (190) and Cole Birkam (heavyweight)

Lady JV Panthers fall short
at Union City, defeat Colon
C-S, now 6-5, trailed by a 18-17 margin at halftime but the home team outscored the Panthers 15-7 in the third quarter and took a 33-24 lead into the final stanza.
Kameroyn Blair scored 14 points to lead C-S in scoring and Alyssa Morrison had seven points.

The Climax-Scotts girls JV basketball team won its third straight game with a 48-19 win over Colon on the road February 6.
C-S enjoyed quarter leads of 10-3, 25-10, and 37-17.
Nina Garcia-Delgado, with 13 points, Kameroyn Blair, with 11 points, and Kyla Etheridge, with 10 points, all reached double figures in scoring for the Panthers.

The Climax-Scotts JV boys basketball team improved to 11-3 with a 39-21 win over Colon February 5 at Colon.
Nine Panthers entered the scoring column with Ashton Heighton and Alexander Albarran-Aguilar each scoring nine points to lead C-S.
C-S enjoyed strong defense, holding Colon to single digits in each of the first three quarters.

C-S Defeats St. Philip
The Climax-Scotts JV boys basketball team captured a 50-29 win over Battle Creek St. Philip February 4 at Battle Creek St. Phil.
A big start and strong defense were keys to the win, as the Panthers raced out to a 19-2 lead after one quarter and held the home team to single digit scoring in three out of the four quarters.
Eleven Panthers entered the scoring column with Ashton Heighton’s 11 points leading the way.

Boys varsity basketball team
continues to seek a victory
The Carol Vick Memorial game is named after former C-S girls varsity basketball coach and current C-S High School Language Arts teacher Josh Vick’s mother, who was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer in 1995 when Josh was 15 years old. She died six years later after she was told she would live six months.
C-S, now 3-11, has lost five straight games.
Colon outscored C-S in each of the four quarters and outrebounded the Panthers by a 37-25 margin including a 12-7 figure under the offensive boards.
Colon also enjoyed the upper hand in floor shooting percentage, finishing at 47 percent (26-55) overall from the floor including a 5-for-21 mark from three-point range.
C-S’ combined two and three-point shooting percentage from the floor was 37 percent (15-41).
Colon enjoyed quarter leads of 17-14, 31-25 and 50-35.
Tye Chambers, who had six rebounds, was the lone Panther to reach double figures in scoring with 13 points.

St. Phil Closes Strong to Top Panthers
Battle Creek St. Philip closed the game strong to register a 69-51 win over the Climax-Scotts varsity boys basketball team February 4 at Battle Creek St. Phil.
C-S suffered its fourth straight loss for the second time this season.
The Panthers trailed St. Phil by a 49-38 count entering the fourth quarter, but the home team outscored C-S 20-13 in the final frame to secure the win.
St. Phil led by a 15-6 count after one quarter but C-S pulled to within 27-20 at halftime.
Maddox Wyman led a trio of Panthers in double figure scoring with 16 points. Tye Chambers added 15 points and Liam LaSala pitched in with 10 points.

Full lineup helps Lady Panthers to win
C-S, now 11-5, pushed its winning streak to four games with a 51-32 win over Union City February 9, a 64-25 win over Colon February 6, and a 42-29 victory over Battle Creek St. Philip February 4.
Senior starter Sophie Braithwaite, who has been sidelined since a December 30 loss to Galesburg-Augusta, returned to the lineup in C-S’ win over St. Phil. Senior starter Holly Talbert returned from a brief one game absence against Athens because of a knee injury, in the win over Gobles.
While the Lady Panthers relied on strong defense in the three most recent wins, the offense has started to click as well.
The Panthers held Union City to single digits in three out of four quarters February 9.
C-S led by a 22-17 margin at halftime, but took charge in the fourth quarter when Holly Talbert scored seven points and freshman Alyse Langs added six, helping the visitors to a 39-26 advantage entering the fourth quarter.
The Lady Panther defense made sure there was no comeback, holding the Chargers to four points in the fourth quarter.
C-S enjoyed a strong shooting effort from the floor, making 47.7 percent of all of its floor attempts including a 19-for-37 (51.3 percent) effort from two-point range
Talbert, who was 4-for-7 from two-point range and knocked down two three-point baskets, led the team with 15 points and Langs pitched in with 10 points.

C-S Clicks at Both Ends of Court in Win Over Colon
The Climax-Scotts girls varsity basketball team looked sharp at both ends of the court in a 64-25 win over Colon February 6 at C-S High School.
C-S came up with 22 steals and distributed the ball well at the offensive end, finishing with 16 assists.
Colon struggled against the tough C-S defense in the first half, managing just one basket in the first quarter when the home team took a 20-2 lead after one quarter. Colon made just one three-point basket from the floor in the second quarter (Colon scored eight more points from the free throw line), leading to a 42-13 C-S lead at halftime.
Both teams struggled offensively in the third quarter, with the Lady Panthers enjoying a 48-16 lead after three quarters.
C-S shot 50 percent (23-46) from two-point range and 2-5 from distance.
C-S coach Chip Paddock received a balanced scoring effort, as three Panthers reached double figures in scoring.
Holly Talbert, who was 6-for-10 from two-point range, led C-S in scoring with 17 points.
Kendal Reitz, who was 5-for-8 on two-point attempts, stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, four rebounds, six assists and six steals.
Freshman Alyse Langs added 11 points.

Strong defense over the final three quarters and crisp shooting from the floor helped the Climax-Scotts girls varsity basketball team to a 42-29 win over Battle Creek St. Philip February 4 at Battle Creek St. Philip.
C-S took a 13-11 lead into the second quarter, but held the home team to single digit scoring in each of the final three quarters.
The Lady Panthers held a 33-25 lead after three quarters but held the Tigers to a pair of free throws and one basket from the floor in the fourth quarter.
C-S shot a warm 44 percent overall from the floor, including a 3-for-8 effort from distance.
Holly Talbert, who was 7-for-12 from two-point range and knocked down a pair of triples, led C-S in scoring with 20 points.
Ashlynn Gilbert pulled down seven rebounds and Kendal Reitz handed out five assists.
