U.S. Sen. Elissa Slotkin said Tuesday night she hopes the federal investigation into her participation in a video released last fall stating that military members can refuse illegal orders is over after a grand jury refused to indict her and five other members of Congress over the video.

On Tuesday evening, it was reported that a grand jury in Washington had refused to approve charges against Slotkin, D-Holly, or the other five Democratic members of Congress who are all ex-military of former intelligence agency officials.

President Donald Trump’s administration has sought to investigate Slotkin for her role in the release of the mid-November 2025 video featuring her and five other Democrats in Congress.

Last week, Slotkin informed the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro that she would not sit for an interview as part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s investigation into her role in the video. She also refused to sit for an interview with the FBI as part of its separate investigation into the video.

“Today, it was a grand jury of anonymous American citizens who upheld the rule of law and determined this case should not proceed,” Slotkin said in a Tuesday statement. “Hopefully this ends this politicized investigation for good.”

Trump responded angrily to the video in November on social media, calling for their arrests and trials. Other Republicans quickly backed the president’s stance, calling the rhetoric dangerous. Some have alleged it may border on seditious behavior.

“Today wasn’t just an embarrassing day for the administration. It was another sad day for our country,” Slotkin said. “Because whether or not Pirro succeed is not the point. It’s that President Trump continues to weaponize our justice system against his perceived enemies. It’s the kind of thing you see in a foreign country, not in the United States we know and love.”
