Detroit man and passenger charged with felonies after wrong-way driving escalates

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido has announced Dawaun McQueen, a 29-year-old from Detroit,  and Eric Brown, 36 of Detroit, were arraigned on felony charges after an incident that allegedly began with McQueen driving the wrong way down 8 Mile Road.

It is alleged that on Sunday, March 1, Warren police officers were traveling westbound on 8 Mile approaching Van Dyke when they observed two vehicles, a Ram and KIA Optima, traveling toward them, eastbound in the westbound lanes.

The two vehicles stopped on the other side of the light at Van Dyke. The driver of the Ram allegedly pulled in front of the Optima and reversed into it. When officers initiated a traffic stop, the Ram allegedly fled, eastbound in the westbound lanes, prompting a lengthy pursuit that ended when the Ram crashed between a guard rail and a parked car.

It is further alleged that officers attempted to detain the driver and passenger, but the driver allegedly drove forward and then reversed into the patrol vehicle multiple times. After repeated attempts to stop the vehicle, officers deployed chemical spray to gain compliance. Both individuals were taken into custody.

McQueen was arraigned Monday before visiting Judge Ed Servitto at the 37th District Court in Warren

He is charged with the following offenses:

• Police Officer – Fleeing – Third Degree – Vehicle Code, a 5-year felony
