Last Thursday, Hamilton was sentenced by Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Faunce to probation for a period of two years.
Hamilton must wear a curfew tether for 90 days, have no contact with the victim’s family, perform 200 hours of community service, pay restitution of $10,000 to the State of Michigan, in addition to court and other state costs. She must also complete a Class A Training Center class. Finally, her driver’s license was revoked.
The charge against Hamilton stems from an incident that occurred last August.
Hamilton was driving on eastbound I-696 near Hoover and struck Nateria Smith, a 28-year-old woman from Madison Heights, as Smith was attempting to add gasoline to her vehicle which was parked on the shoulder of the expressway.
Hamilton did not stop. Smith was transported to Ascension Macomb Oakland Hospital Warren Campus where she was pronounced deceased.
