‘Mediation Services for Juvenile Justice Involved Youth’ examined online
The Michigan Judicial Institute will present a webinar on “Mediation Services for Juvenile Justice Involved Youth: A Guide to Alternative and Restorative Solutions” Friday, April 24, from 9 to 10 a.m. via Zoom.
This webinar offers an overview of mediation as a community-based approach within Michigan’s juvenile court context, drawing on the presenter’s experience working with local courts. Real-world examples illustrate how these practices are carried out, alongside practical perspectives on their role in supporting youth and families.
Several key topics will be addressed, including:
• The range of available mediation and restorative interventions.
• The role of mediation as a restorative practice in juvenile proceedings.
• Examples of how mediation and restorative interventions are implemented in juvenile diversion and other cases across select Michigan courts.
Speaking at the webinar will be Jackie Hallberg, executive director of Mediation & Restorative Services which services Muskegon, Oceana, Mason and Manistee Counties. Hallberg designs and facilitates a variety of restorative justice, diversion and reentry programs for youth and adults. She has worked with those that are justice impacted, including victims of their crimes, for more than 20 years. Hallberg is a licensed masters social worker, certified mediator and has previously worked at both an elementary school and a police department.
The webinar is intended for family court administrators and supervisors, juvenile diversion workers, juvenile intake officers, juvenile probation officers and caseworkers, law enforcement, school personnel, attorneys, social service providers, Juvenile Justice County Implementation Team members, and other juvenile justice stakeholders.
