Eastpointe man pleads no contest to second-degree murder

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido has announced that Nico Trevon Nettles, a 27-year-old Eastpointe resident, has pleaded no contest to a second-degree murder charge in connection with his killing of a 28-year-old Detroit man, Rashid Aliakbar, at a house in Eastpointe last year.

During a pretrial conference Monday before Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Faunce, Nettles pled no contest as charged.

He will be sentenced on June 4.

Authorities say Nettles stabbed Aliakbar in the upper chest with a knife during an altercation that took place at the Eastpointe residence.

Police responded to reports of a stabbing and immediately began lifesaving measures on the victim. Eastpointe Fire and Rescue, and MedStar, arrived, tended to the victim and transported him to Ascension St. John’s Hospital in Detroit where he died.
