C-S track teams enjoy strong
performances at April meets
Climax-Scotts High School senior Gabe Walliczek broke his own school record and finished second in two events and seniors Sophie Braithwaite and Paige Amos both had third place finishes to lead the girls at the Union City Invite April 24.
The C-S boys finished fifth out of a field of 10 schools with 53 points. The Panther girls finished eighth out of 10 schools with 25 points.
Centreville, with 122 points in the girls race, and 99 points in the boys race, placed first in both events.
After finishing second in the 100-meter dash preliminaries, Braithwaite finished third in the finals with a time of 13.53.
Paige, who finished fourth in the 200-meter preliminaries with a time of 28.30, improved her time to 27.91 in the 200-meter finals for a third place finish.
Walliczek finished second behind Centreville’s Matthew Bates in both the shot put and discuss competitions.
The C-S senior had a throw of 49’1” in the shot put, two feet, four inches behind Bates.
Walliczek had a personal best and school record throw of 158’6” in the discus, however Bates had a throw of 159’, 9”.

C-S Boys Go Undefeated in Crossover Meet, Girls Finish 2-1
C-S sophomore Maximus Wurtzel won one event and was a member of two relay teams that placed first, helping the Climax-Scotts boys track team to a 3-0 record in a SCAA crossover meet at Climax-Scotts High School April 22.
Olivia Bolt placed first in two events to help the Lady Panthers to a 2-1 record on the day.
The C-S boys placed first in six events and had 20 personal best performances.

Walliczek also placed first in the discus throw with a throw of 153’4”.

The 4x200-meter relay team consisting of Maximus Wurtzel, Tyler Peck, Elijah Bowron and Julian Garcis placed first with a time of 1:34.93, the 4x100-meter relay team of Alexander Albarran, Maximus Wurtzel, Elijah Bowron and Tyler Peck placed first with a time of 47.10, and senior Blake Buddemeier won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 19.59.
The Lady Panthers enjoyed 13 personal best performances and placed first in seven events.
Bolt won the 400-meter run with a personal best time of 1:12.56 and the C-S freshman won the 800-meter run with a time of 3:03.77.
C-S senior Sophie Braithwaite placed first in the 100-meter dash with a season best time of 13.11, sophomore Alyssa Morrison placed first in the 1600-meter run with a time of 7:00.32, the 4x200-meter relay team made up of Paige Amos, Addyson Hutchins, Annabelle Edwards and Nina Garcia-Delgado placed first with a time of 1:57.39, Edwards won the high jump with a personal best height of 5’1”, and senior Addy Reeves placed first in the long jump with a season best distance of 15’0”.

Lady Panthers suffer first loss
The Climax-Scotts varsity softball team suffered its first loss of the season but took an impressive 7-1 record into an April 28 game at Athens.
The Lady Panthers suffered a 7-3 loss in the first game of a doubleheader April 25 to Bridgman at C-S but bounced back to win the second game 12-6.
The Lady Panthers managed just four hits and committed three errors that led to four unearned runs in the opening game loss.
Alyse Langs pitched a strong game despite absorbing the loss. She scattered eight hits and gave up three earned runs while tying her season high with 10 strikeouts.
Addi Dzwik, Addy Reeves, who had a double, Olivia Bolt and Chloe Czuk, who had a double and one RBI, collected the C-S hits.
Bridgman pulled to within 7-6 with four runs in the top of the fifth inning in the second game before C-S pulled away with four runs in the bottom of the inning.
Alyse Langs had three hits, including a double and drove in two runs to lead C-S at the plate.
Addy Reeves earned the win, pitching the first four and two-thirds innings. She gave up nine hits and six earned runs with four walks and one strikeout.
Langs slammed the door in relief with two and one-third scoreless innings.
The April 21 single game scheduled to be played at Mendon was postponed because of rain. The two teams will play a doubleheader at C-S May 12.

Baseball team sweeps Heritage Christian,
The Climax-Scotts varsity baseball team responded to a 16-0 loss at Harper Creek April 22 with two wins over Heritage Christian the next day at C-S Jr./Sr. High School.
C-S, now 5-2, won the first game over Heritage Christian 10-0, and took the nightcap 10-8.
Nyle Sattler pitched a five inning one hitter to earn the win in the first game. He walked one batter and struck out eight.
Dane Sattler had two hits including a triple and drove in one run to pace C-S at the plate.
Dane Sattler produced two more hits including a triple and drove in two runs in the second game.
Alex Wurtzel relieved starting pitcher Lincoln Dzwik, who only faced seven batters and departed after one-third of an inning.
Wurtzel scattered three hits, did not allow an earned run, walked three and struck out four.
Maximus Wurtzel pitched the final two and one-thirds innings for the win. He allowed one hit, no earned runs, walked one and struck out two.

Baseball team sweeps Heritage Christian,
falls to Harper Creek
The Climax-Scotts varsity baseball team responded to a 16-0 loss at Harper Creek April 22 with two wins over Heritage Christian the next day at C-S Jr./Sr. High School.
C-S, now 5-2, won the first game over Heritage Christian 10-0, and took the nightcap 10-8.
Nyle Sattler pitched a five inning one hitter to earn the win in the first game. He walked one batter and struck out eight.
Dane Sattler had two hits including a triple and drove in one run to pace C-S at the plate.
Dane Sattler produced two more hits including a triple and drove in two runs in the second game.
Alex Wurtzel relieved starting pitcher Lincoln Dzwik, who only faced seven batters and departed after one-third of an inning.
Wurtzel scattered three hits, did not allow an earned run, walked three and struck out four.
Maximus Wurtzel pitched the final two and one-thirds innings for the win. He allowed one hit, no earned runs, walked one and struck out two.
