Girls track team has four first place
finishes at SAC meet
The Galesburg-Augusta girls track team enjoyed four first place finishes and the boys had five third place finishes in a SAC meet at G-A High School April 22.
G-A’s Jenisyn Klimp and Ellesa Callender both placed first in one event and helped a relay team to a first place finish.
Klimp finished first in the 200-meter dash with a personal best time of 27.2. The Ram sophomore combined with Ellesa Callender, Brooklyn James and Kayla Bortolussi in a first place effort in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:56.2.
Callender also placed first in the discus throw with a toss of 93’7”.
G-A sophomore Kayla Bortolussi won the long jump with a distance of 14’11”.
In the boys event Schoolcraft defeated G-A 127-8 and Lawton defeated G-A 98-19.
In the girls event Schoolcraft defeated the Lady Rams 78-48 and G-A defeated Lawton 61.5-36.5.

G-A baseball team splits with Martin
A doubleheader split against Martin April 21 sent the Galesburg-Augusta varsity baseball team into the new week with a 5-4 record.
G-A won the first game 3-1 and Martin bounced back to win the second game 10-6.
Alex Krugh had two of G-A’s hits at the plate in the first game and won the game on the mound.
The Ram senior pitched the first six and one-third innings,. allowing three hits, one earned run and five walks. He struck out 15 Clippers, giving him an eye popping 49 strikeouts in 18 and two-thirds innings.
Nate Ewart pitched the last two-thirds of an innings for the save. He did not a allow a hit, run, or walk.
The Rams attempted to come back from a seven-run deficit but fell short in the second game, 10-6.
Jonah Ranes, who had a double and drove in two runs, had two hits for the Rams in the second game.
Kameron Prince suffered the loss on the mound in relief of starting pitcher Nate Ewart. Ewart pitched the first two-thirds of an inning and gave up two hits, three earned runs and two walks.
Prince allowed seven hits, six earned runs and three walks to go with three strikeouts.
The scheduled doubleheader against Battle Creek Pennfield April 24 was postponed because of rain.

G-A softball team drops two games
The Galesburg-Augusta girls varsity softball team entered a doubleheader April 27 with a 3-10 record after the team suffered two setbacks at Martin April 21, 21-14 and 14-13.
The Lady Rams couldn’t overcome 12 errors that led to 12 unearned runs in the opening game loss.
Caitlyn Valadez hit her second home run of the season, added a triple and drove in four runs for a team high 15 RBI so far this season.
Kaylin Wetzel had three hits including a double and drove in one run.
Kaylee Bastian suffered the loss on the mound.
Martin had a walk off win over the Rams in the second game by erasing a 13-9 deficit with a five-run seventh inning.
G-A struggled defensively again, with nine errors leading to 12 unearned Martin runs.
BreAnna Keene had three hits including two doubles and drove in one run and Sienna Owens had three hits and four stolen bases for the Rams.
Kaylee Wetzel was tagged with the loss on the mound.
A scheduled home doubleheader against Comstock April 27 was cancelled because of rain.

Tennis team places third at
Niles tournament; falls to Hackett
The Galesburg-Augusta girls tennis team placed third at the Niles Brandywine Tournament April 25.
Kalamazoo Central won the tournament with 12 points, Niles Brandywine placed second with 11 points and G-A finished with one point in third place.
Karlee Nigg, at No. 1 singles, secured G-A’s lone point with a three set win over Kalamazoo Central’s Elliana Oram, 7-6, 4-6, 10-8.
Nigg lost her second round match to Niles Brandywine’s Sydney Olson, 6-0, 3-6, 10-2.
The scheduled home match April 21 against Schoolcraft that was postponed because of rain and rescheduled for April 27, was postponed again because of rain.

Lady Rams Blanked by Hackett
The Galesburg-Augusta girls tennis team was defeated by a very talented Kalamazoo Hackett Catholic Prep squad 8-0 April 23 at Hackett.
Although Lauren Gates lost her match 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Peyton Newton lost 7-5 at No. 3 singles, the two Rams were the the lone G-A players to record a game win in a match.
