Weather keeping C-S golf team inactive


The Climax-Scotts golf team had one match cancelled because of rain and another stopped during play recently.

C-S started a match May 4 against Hillsdale Academy but the match was cancelled due to poor weather after the teams played five holes.

A scheduled match against Mendon April 27 was cancelled because of rain.

The Panthers will be home May 11 for the SCAA meet at Riverside Golf Course at 4 p.m. followed by the SCAA Championship May 18 at Binder Park Golf Course.

Panther baseball team
continues strong play


While the Climax-Scotts varsity baseball team dropped the second game of a doubleheader against Union City May 1 on the road, the Panthers entered the new week with a 7-3 record by earning a split.

C-S defeated Union City 11-8 in the first game and dropped a 3-2 decision in the nightcap.

Carter Dzwik, who drove in one run, had two hits in the first game.

Nyle Sattler scattered six hits and allowed two earned runs and three walks to go with four strikeouts over four innings to earn the win in the first game.

Alex Wurtzel pitched three hitless innings and had three strikeouts in relief.

The Panthers struggled defensively in the second game.

The Panthers, who committed six errors, managed just six hits with Carter Dzwik’s two hits leading the way.

Battle Creek St. Philip’s Carter Dzwik, playing on the Climax-Scotts varsity baseball team as part of a co-op arrangement, threw a seven-inning no-hitter in a 5-0 win for the Panthers over Colon April 30 at Robert L. Weessies, Jr. Field.

Dzwik threw 66 of his 97 pitches for strikes, allowing just two walks while striking out 13 Magi.
Hunter Piper had two of C-S’ seven hits to lead the Panthers at the plate.

C-S boys track team impressive
at divisional meet


The Climax-Scotts boys track team posted a 5-0 record and the Lady Panthers were 3-2 at the SCAA Divisional Meet April 29 at Bellevue.

C-S enjoyed 12 first place finishes and eight personal best performances in the mens meet.

Maximus Wurtzel led the boys with four first place finishes.

The Panther sophomore placed first in the 100-meter dash (11.50), 200-meter dash (23.50), and 400-meter dash with a personal best time of 53.72. He joined Alexander Albarran, Alexander Wurtzel and Easton VanMiddlesworth in a first place effort in the 4x400-meter relay event the team ran in 4:12.49.

C-S also won two other relay events.

Elijah Bowron, Alexander Albarran, Maddox Wyman and Easton VanMiddlesworth combined to win the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 48.89 and Bowron, Julian Garcia, Tyler Peck and Alexander Albarran teamed up to win the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:41.53.

C-S senior Nate Arnett won the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:20.36 and he won the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:08.72.

Senior Gabe Walliczek also won two events, earning first place finishes in the shot put (45’5”) and discus (133’3”).

Tristan Thompson won the pole vault with a height of 7’0” and Julian Garcia placed first in the long jump with a distance of 18’7”.

The most recent Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association (MITCA) Power Rankings show the C-S boys ranked 6th in Division 4.

The Lady Panthers won six events and had five personal best performances at the SCAA Divisional meet.

C-S senior Paige Amos led the Panthers by winning two events and helping a relay team to a first place finish.

Amos won the 100-meter (13.44) and 200-meter dashes (28.59) and teamed up with Annabelle Edwards, Laiken Meade, and Addy Reeves to win the 4x200-meter relay with a time 
of 2:01.75.

Other first place finishes for C-S came from freshman Olivia Bolt in the 800-meter run (2:49.45), freshman Nina Garcia-Delgado in the 1600-meter run (6:27.22) and the 4x400-meter relay where Alyssa Morrison, Chloe Czuk, Nina Garcia-Delgado and Olivia Bolt combined for a first place finish with a time of 5:03.30.

The most recent MITCA Power Rankings have the Lady Panthers ranked 15th in Division 4.

The Centreville Invite the two teams were scheduled to participate in May 2 was cancelled.

C-S Boys Finish 5th, Girls 8th
at Union City Invite


The Climax-Scotts boys track team finished fifth out of a field of 10 schools and the girls finished eighth out of a field of 10 schools also at the Union City Invite April 24 at Union City.

The boys totaled 53 points, and the Lady Panthers finished with 25 points.

Two second place finishes by senior Gabe Walliczek led the boys.

The C-S senior finished second in the shot put, two feet, four inches behind Centreville’s Matthew Bates with a throw of 49’1”. 

While Walliczek settled for a second place finish in the discus, his throw of 158’6” was a personal best and broke his own school record.

A third place finish by senior Sophie Braithwaite in the 100-meter dash (13.53) and third place finish by Paige Amos in the 200-meter dash (27.91) was C-S’ highest placers in the girls event.

Two walk off wins give
Lady Panthers a 12-1 start


Two walk off wins over Gull Lake at Climax-Scotts High School May 4 gave the Climax-Scotts girls varsity softball team a 12-1 record entering play May 7 at Bellevue.

Freshman Olivia Bolt delivered game winning RBI hits in each walk off win.

Gull Lake came back from a 8-5 deficit to knot the game with a three-run top of the seventh inning in the opener.

The Lady Panthers responded with a one out RBI single by Olivia Bolt to left field in the bottom of the inning for the winning run.

Addy Reeves opened the inning with a single and was sacrificed to second by Chloe Czuk before Bolt delivered the game winning RBI single.

Alyse Langs pitched all seven innings for the win. she gave up 10 hits, one earned run, three walks and struck out six Blue devils.

Quinn Dzwik, Alyse Langs, Addi Dzwik, and Chloe Czuk had the other Panther hits.

The Lady Panthers claimed a walk off win in the second game as well.

Gull Lake appeared to break the game open with a three-run top of the seventh inning for a 9-5 lead.

The Panthers responded with a five-run outburst in the bottom of the inning to record the win, with Bolt ripping a one out line drive RBI single to right field for the game winning RBI.

Quinn Dzwik, who had a double, and Langs, who had two RBI, each had two hits for C-S.

Addy Reeves earned the win on the mound. The Panther senior pitched all seven innings, allowed 13 hits, three earned runs, no walks and she struck out four.

Lady Panthers Sweep Union City

The Climax-Scotts girls varsity softball team continued its strong season by sweeping a doubleheader over Union City May 1 on the road.

The Lady Panthers won the first game 14-5 and captured a 13-10 win in the second game.

The Lady Panthers totaled 37 hits in the two wins over the Chargers.

Addi Dzwik, who had a double and one RBI, and Kyla Etheridge, who drove in one run and stole two bases, each had four hits for C-S in the first game.

Senior Addy Reeves pitched all seven innings and earned the win. She allowed five earned runs, one walk and struck out three Chargers.

Alyse Langs had four hits, including a double and drove in four runs to lead C-S’ 16-hit attack in the second game.

Quinn Dzwik, who had two triples and drove in three runs, and her sister Adi Dzwik, who had one RBI, each added three hits.

Langs earned the win in relief of starting pitcher Addy Reeves.

The C-S freshman allowed nine hits, two earned runs and walked one batter to go with seven strikeouts in five and two-thirds innings worked.

Climax-Scotts freshman Alyse Langs struck out 16 of the 27 batters she faced and scattered five hits, helping the Lady Panthers to a 5-3 win over Colon April 30 at C-S Jr./Sr. High School.

Langs, who threw 77 of her 107 pitches for strikes, did not walk a batter and all three Colon runs were unearned.

The C-S freshman added two hits and drove in two runs at the plate.

Quinn Dzwik, who had a double, had three hits.
