Varsity baseball team earns split
at All City Tournament
The Climax-Scotts varsity baseball team earned a split at the Battle Creek All City Tournament May 9 at Bailey Park in Battle Creek, leaving the team with a 10-4 record entering scheduled action May 12.
C-S struck first with two runs in the top of the first inning in the opening game against Battle Creek Pennfield, but Pennfield rebounded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and went on to capture a 5-2 win.
C-S rebounded with a strong pitching performance in a 16-1 win over Battle Creek Central in the second game.
An RBI triple by Nyle Sattler and an RBI double by his brother Dane in the first inning accounted for C-S’ two runs in the first game.
Dane Sattler finished with two hits.
Starting pitcher Carter Dzwik pitched the first three and one-third innings, allowing one hit, two earned runs and six walks with six strikeouts.
Maximus Wurtzel suffered the loss in relief, allowing two hits, two earned runs and one walk in one-third of an inning.
The Panthers took advantage of 14 walks and five Bearcat errors that led to four unearned runs in a 16-1 win in the second game.
Nyle Sattler started and gave up just one hit in one inning and Bryce Birkam pitched the final three innings for the win in relief. Birkam allowed one hit, no hits and struck out five.

C-S Sweeps Bellevue
The Panthers enjoyed strong pitching and produced five extra base hits in a doubleheader sweep over Bellevue May 7 at Bellevue, 12-1 and 11-1.
Carter Dzwik and Alex Wurtzel teamed up on a five inning no hitter in the first game.
Dzwik started and pitched the first three innings for the win. He walked one batter and struck out seven.
Wurtzel pitched the final two innings, allowing one earned run with two walks and four strikeouts.
An 11-run third inning gave C-S separation and the visitors never looked back.
Nyle Sattler, who had a home run and drove in four runs, had two hits to pace C-S at the plate.
The Panthers also received strong pitching in the second game, as Nyle Sattler and Maximus Wurtzel teamed up on a one hitter in the five inning win.
Sattler started and pitched the first two innings for the win. He allowed one hit and struck out three.
Wurtzel pitched three hitless innings. He walked two and struck out two Broncos.
Carter Dzwik, who drove in two runs and had a home run and double with two RBI, led C-S at the plate. Dane Sattler, who had a double, and Alex Wurtzel each added two hits.

C-S falls to Lakeview, downs Bearcats
A 26-run first inning lifted the Climax-Scotts varsity softball team to a 26-2 win over Battle Creek Central in the All City Tournament at Bailey Park in Battle Creek May 9.
The Lady Panthers fell to Battle Creek Lakeview 14-3 earlier in the day.
C-S benefitted from 19 walks, eight wild pitches, three hit batters and six Bearcat errors that led to 21 unearned runs.
Battle Creek St. Phil’s Quinn Dzwik led the Panthers with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. She had two doubles, a triple and drove in five runs.
C-S senior Addy Reeves allowed two hits, two earned runs, walked six and struck out seven batters to earn the win on the mound.
The Lady Panthers fell to Battle Creek Lakeview 14-3 earlier in the day.

Six C-S errors led to 10 unearned runs in a 14-3 loss to Battle Creek Lakeview in the first game.
The Panthers were held to just four hits, with Quinn Dzwik and Alyse Langs each hitting a home run and recording one RBI.
Langs suffered the loss on the mound, allowing 13 hits, four earned runs, five walks and she struck out four in seven innings worked.

Lady Panthers Sweep Bellevue
The Lady Panthers held Bellevue to just three hits in a 12-0 win in the first game and one hit in a 12-0 victory in the second game of a doubleheader May 7 at Bellevue.
Reeves scattered three hits and struck out 11 batters to earn the win in the first game.
Quinn Dzwik, who had a double and drove in three runs, led an 11-hit attack for C-S with three hits.

Golf team places fourth at SCAA Jamboree
The Climax-Scotts golf team placed fourth in two separate SCAA Jamboree events at Coldwater Golf Course May 11.
C-S finished play on the first nine holes with a 187 and a 179 on the back nine course.
Hillsdale Academy placed first in the back nine event with a 168, followed by Mendon (169), Jackson Christian (171) and C-S (179).
Mendon placed first on the front nine holes with a 170, followed by Hillsdale Academy (174), Jackson Christian (183) and C-S (187).
Gixxer Blair, Ryan Pejakovich and Easton VanMiddlesworth each finished with a 44 on the back nine holes to lead C-S. Hunter LaSala had a 47.

The Climax-Scotts golf team defeated Battle Creek Harper Creek 205-216 May 5 in a match hosted by C-S at Riverside Golf Course in Battle Creek.
Senior Ryan Pejakovich was low scorer for C-S with a 46. Gixxer Blair followed with a 48, Cooper Dinse shot a 52 and Aiden Klusman rounded out C-S’ top four low scorers with a 59.
C-S finished play on the first nine holes with a 187 and a 179 on the back nine course.
Hillsdale Academy placed first in the back nine event with a 168, followed by Mendon (169), Jackson Christian (171) and C-S (179).

Walliczek continues ascension in discus

As the regular season winds down and the post season approaches, Climax-Scotts High School senior Gabe Walliczek has established himself as one of the elite throwers in Division 4 in the discus competition.
The Panther junior broke his own school record and placed first in the discus competition at the Southwest Michigan Throwers Classic at Schoolcraft May 11 with a throw of 175’4”, more then 15 feet better then his previous best of 160’,01” that was set at the Chuck King Invite May 8.
Walliczek is now ranked sixth in the discus competition in all divisions in the State of Michigan.
Walliczek also competed in the shot put competition and finished fourth with a throw of 44’6”.
No C-S girls competed at the event.

C-S Boys Ranked No. 6 in MITCA Rankings;
Qualify for Team State Finals
The Climax-Scotts boys track team was ranked No. 6 for the week of May 4 in the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association Division 4 team state power rankings, and have qualified for the team state meet May 23 at Hillsdale College.
Currently, qualification is awarded to MHSAA Regional Champions and earned by participating in the MITCA Power Rankings; the top 16 Power Ranked teams in Division 1 and the top 16 Power Ranked teams in Divisions 2, 3 & 4 will qualify.
The Lady Panthers are ranked 13th in the MITCA Division 4 power rankings.
Both Panther teams will be aiming for state finals qualifiers at the regionals May 15 at Gobles.
Athletes qualify for the Division 4 State Finals May 30 at Baldwin Middle School by finishing in the top two in each event or by meeting a qualifying standard.
Boys Finish 2nd At Invite, Girls 6th
The boys enjoyed a solid week, finishing second at the 12-team Chuck King Invite at Concord May 8 and second at the SCAA Championship at Hillsdale University May 5.
The Lady Panthers finished sixth at the Chuck King Invite and third at the SCAA Championship meet.
Hillsdale Academy placed first in both the mens and womens events at the Chuck King Invite.
The C-S men finished with 87.5 points and the Lady Panthers finished with 33 points.
Gabe Walliczek placed first in two events to lead C-S. He broke his own school record in the discus with a first place finishing and personal best throw of 160’01”
The Panther senior placed first in the shot put with a distance of 46’02.00”
The Lady Panthers had two second place finishes in the sprints.
C-S senior Sophie Braithwaite finished second in the 100-meter dash with a season best time of 13.07 and senior Paige Amos finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.31.

Four First Place Finishers for Boys,
1 First Place Finish For Girls at SCAA Championship
Climax-Scotts enjoyed four first place finishes in the SCAA Championship mens meet May 5 at Hillsdale University, helping the Panthers to a second place finish.
The C-S girls had one first place finish and finished in third place.
Hillsdale Academy, with 244 points, finished 100 points ahead of the C-S boys to win the boys event.
Hillsdale Academy also ran away with the first place finish in the girls event with 273.5 points, 185 points ahead of second place finishing Pittsford. C-S finished with 67 points.
Senior Gabe Walliczek placed first in the shot put with a throw of 47’7.5”, and the discus with a throw of 157’4”.

Junior Annabelle Edwards recorded the lone first place finish for the girls, winning the high jump with a leap of 4’10”.

As the regular season winds down and the post season approaches, Climax-Scotts High School senior Gabe Walliczek has established himself as one of the elite throwers in Division 4 in the discus competition.
The Panther junior broke his own school record and placed first in the discus competition at the Southwest Michigan Throwers Classic at Schoolcraft May 11 with a throw of 175’4”, more then 15 feet better then his previous best of 160’,01” that was set at the Chuck King Invite May 8.
Walliczek is now ranked sixth in the discus competition in all divisions in the State of Michigan.
Walliczek also competed in the shot put competition and finished fourth with a throw of 44’6”.
No C-S girls competed at the event.

C-S Boys Ranked No. 6 in MITCA Rankings;
Qualify for Team State Finals
The Climax-Scotts boys track team was ranked No. 6 for the week of May 4 in the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association Division 4 team state power rankings, and have qualified for the team state meet May 23 at Hillsdale College.
Currently, qualification is awarded to MHSAA Regional Champions and earned by participating in the MITCA Power Rankings; the top 16 Power Ranked teams in Division 1 and the top 16 Power Ranked teams in Divisions 2, 3 & 4 will qualify.
The Lady Panthers are ranked 13th in the MITCA Division 4 power rankings.
Both Panther teams will be aiming for state finals qualifiers at the regionals May 15 at Gobles.
Athletes qualify for the Division 4 State Finals May 30 at Baldwin Middle School by finishing in the top two in each event or by meeting a qualifying standard.
Boys Finish 2nd At Invite, Girls 6th
The boys enjoyed a solid week, finishing second at the 12-team Chuck King Invite at Concord May 8 and second at the SCAA Championship at Hillsdale University May 5.
The Lady Panthers finished sixth at the Chuck King Invite and third at the SCAA Championship meet.
Hillsdale Academy placed first in both the mens and womens events at the Chuck King Invite.
The C-S men finished with 87.5 points and the Lady Panthers finished with 33 points.
Gabe Walliczek placed first in two events to lead C-S. He broke his own school record in the discus with a first place finishing and personal best throw of 160’01”
The Panther senior placed first in the shot put with a distance of 46’02.00”
The Lady Panthers had two second place finishes in the sprints.
C-S senior Sophie Braithwaite finished second in the 100-meter dash with a season best time of 13.07 and senior Paige Amos finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.31.

Four First Place Finishers for Boys,
1 First Place Finish For Girls at SCAA Championship
Climax-Scotts enjoyed four first place finishes in the SCAA Championship mens meet May 5 at Hillsdale University, helping the Panthers to a second place finish.
The C-S girls had one first place finish and finished in third place.
Hillsdale Academy, with 244 points, finished 100 points ahead of the C-S boys to win the boys event.
Hillsdale Academy also ran away with the first place finish in the girls event with 273.5 points, 185 points ahead of second place finishing Pittsford. C-S finished with 67 points.
Senior Gabe Walliczek placed first in the shot put with a throw of 47’7.5”, and the discus with a throw of 157’4”.
