Tennis team secures 5 points
at tournament
The Galesburg-Augusta girls tennis team secured five points at the SAC Conference Tournament May 8 at Allegan.
G-A won two matches at No. 4 singles and one each at No. 1, 2 and 3 singles.
Jilaya Henry-Phillips won her first match at No. 4 singles over her opponent from South Haven 6-1, 6-3 and her third round match by a 9-7 score over her opponent from Schoolcraft.
Karlee Nigg, at No. 1 singles, won her first round match 6-3, 6-1. Lauren Gates, at No. 2 singles, won her second round match 8-5 and Peyton Newton, at No. 3 singles, won her second round match 8-5.

Seniors honored
Pictured above are G-A seniors Jacksen Houseman (left) and Bradlee Hubbard, who were recipients of the S.A.C. Scholar-Athlete Award and recognized at a luncheon May 7. G-A seniors BreAnna Keene, Alexis Hanis, and Charlotte Lockner also received the award, but they were not able to attend the luncheon. To be eligible, these seniors had to have a minimum of a 3.5 G.P.A. and also earn a minimum of four varsity letters in two different sports.

__________________________________________________Softball team falls to Marcellus twice
The Galesburg-Augusta varsity softball team suffered two lopsided losses to Marcellus May 8 to fall to 7-13 overall.
G-A committed 16 errors in a 23-9 loss in the first game and committed seven more miscues in a 32-8 loss in the nightcap.
Caitlyn Valadez, who had a double, triple and drove in three runs, had three of G-A’s seven hits in the first game.
Kaylin Wetzel suffered the loss on the mound, however only five of the 23 runs she gave up were earned.
The Lady Rams recorded 10 hits in the second game but could not overcome a pair of 13-run innings by Marcellus.
Kaylin Wetzel, who drove in one run, had three hits for the Rams.
Wetzel was the losing pitcher in the second game.

G-A Earns Split Against Wyoming Godfrey Lee
Kaylin Wetzel scattered three hits on the mound and three Rams had two hits in an 11-8 win over Wyoming Godfrey Lee in the second game of a doubleheader to give G-A a split May 5 on the road.
Wyoming Godfrey Lee won the first game 10-7.
Caitlyn Valadez, who drove in two runs, had three hits in the first game.
Wetzel allowed four earned runs, walked five and struck out six batters in the second game win.
BreAnna Keene, who had a double and drove in one run, Brooklyn Krontz, who had two RBI and Kaylee Bastian, who had a triple, double and drove in one run, each had two hits for the Rams in the second game.

Qualifying for state finals is
next goal for track team members
Members of both the Galesburg-Augusta boys and girls track teams will be attempting to qualify for the State Finals at the regional meet May 15 at Hillsdale.
Athletes qualify for the Division 3 State Finals May 30 at Kent City by finishing in the top two in each event or by meeting a qualifying standard.
Three members of the girls team competed in the final regular season event at the Southwest Michigan Throwers Classic at Roy David Field in Schoolcraft May 11.
G-A junior Ellesa Callender earned two seventh place finishes, finishing with a distance of 31’2.5” in the shot put and a throw of 103’0” in the discus competition.
No Rams competed in the boys event.

Three Rams Place 1st at Gobles Invite
Two members of the Galesburg-Augusta girls track team and one member on the G-A boys squad earned first place finishes at the Gobles Invite May 8.
The G-A girls placed eighth in the 17-team event with 42 points and the boys finished 14th out of 18 schools with 19 points.
Saugatuck won both the boys and girls events.
G-A sophomore Jenisyn Klimp won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.60 and Ellesa Callender placed first in the discus with a throw of 104’1”.
Patrick Armock, with a throw of 137’0”, won the discus event and was the lone Ram to place first.

One First Place Finisher for Girls

The Rams enjoyed one first place finish in the girls event and one second place finish in the boys meet at the SAC Conference Meet at Gobles May 5.
G-A junior Ellesa Callender won the discus competition with a personal best throw of 104’3”.
Junior Patrick Armock, with a personal best throw of 138’8”, recorded the highest finish for G-A, placing second in the discus throw.
Kalamazoo Hackett placed first in both the men’s and women’s events.
The G-A boys finished 16th out of 18 teams with 11 points. The Lady Rams finished eighth out of a field of 18 teams with 34 points.

One First Place Finisher for Girls
At SAC Conference Meet
The Rams enjoyed one first place finish in the girls event and one second place finish in the boys meet at the SAC Conference Meet at Gobles May 5.
G-A junior Ellesa Callender won the discus competition with a personal best throw of 104’3”.
Junior Patrick Armock, with a personal best throw of 138’8”, recorded the highest finish for G-A, placing second in the discus throw.
Kalamazoo Hackett placed first in both the men’s and women’s events.
The G-A boys finished 16th out of 18 teams with 11 points. The Lady Rams finished eighth out of a field of 18 teams with 34 points.

The Galesburg-Augusta varsity baseball team broke a tie in the sixth inning and went on to defeat Delton-Kellogg 7-4 to complete a suspended game May 9 at Delton-Kellogg.
Nate Ewert had three hits and drove in one run to lead G-A at the plate.
Alex Krugh earned the win in relief, striking out 14 of the 16 batters he faced over four and two-thirds innings worked. He improved to 7-0 and entered play May 12 with 87 strikeouts over 34 and one-third innings worked. He allowed just two hits and walked four.

Plainwell piled up 10 hits and took advantage of four G-A errors that led to seven unearned runs.
Carter Simmons suffered the loss for the 10-7 Rams, allowing five hits, one earned run and four walks with one strikeout in one and two-thirds innings pitched.

A 9-8 walk off win in the bottom of the eighth inning gave G-A a sweep of a doubleheader over Saugatuck May 5 at G-A High School.
G-A won the opener 11-1 in five innings.
An RBI fielder’s choice off the bat of Carter Simmons drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning in the second game of the doubleheader against Saugatuck.
Jonah Ranes led off the inning with a walk and stole second base.
Colton Robertson lined a single to left field, advancing Ranes to third base.
Nate Ewert was intentionally walked, followed by Simmons’ RBI fielder’s choice ground out that scored the winning run.
Ranes, who had one RBI and Colton Robertson, who had two RBI, led a 14-hit attack with three hits apiece.
Kameron Prince earned the win in relief. He pitched three innings and allowed one hit, no runs, one walk and struck out three.
G-A banged out 11 hits and held Saugatuck to four hits in an 11-1 win in the first game.
Five Saugatuck errors led to three unearned G-A runs.
Alex Krugh fell a home run short from hitting for the cycle, ringing out a single, double and triple with two RBI.
