Many of the same Memorial Day activities local residents have enjoyed for years are planned for May 25 in the Village of Climax, however one parade feature that has been missing for years, will be returning.
Village of Climax resident Leota Sunnock, who turned 100 years last December, will be the Grand Marshall of the Parade.
The parade, sponsored by the Climax-Scotts American Legion Post #465, starts at 10 a.m. Lineup at the C-S American Legion Post #465 begins at 9 a.m.
The last Memorial Day parade with a Grand Marshall in the Village of Climax was 2001 when Channel 4l’s Tom Worobec served as the Grand Marshall.
The holiday weekend starts off with a Movie In The Park event, sponsored by the Lawrence Memorial District Library Saturday, May 23 at 8:30 p.m. in the Village Park.
The movie is “Treasure Planet” by Walt Disney (rated PG). This event is free to all viewing and starts at dusk. Bring a chair or blanket to set on.
Memorial Day in the Village starts off with a pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Climax United Methodist Church Education Building.
The 31st Annual Run To Climax 7K and 1 mile Fun
Run, hosted by the Climax-Scotts PTO, begins at 8 a.m. at the Climax United Methodist Church. Registration is from 7 - 7:50 a.m.
A wreath laying ceremony in the Climax Village Park will follow the parade.
Another ceremony in Prairie Home Cemetery will immediately follow the parade and Village Park ceremony.
Isaac Valentine will perform the invocation, Aaron Valentine will be the speaker, followed by the C-S American Legion Post #465 Rifle Squad and taps, played by Edward Valentine.
There will be raffles and hot dogs at the C-S American Legion Post #465 after the parade.
Other activities after the parade will take place behind C-S Jr./Sr. High School at the old intermediate school from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
The Sunset Cruisers Car Club will be holding a car and motorcycle show and bake sale from 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the old Intermediate School Parking Lot.
The Food Truck Alley will feature:
• Woodin’s Concession - elephant ears and lemonade
• King’s Kettle - popcorn, sno-cones, deep fried Oreos & flavored lemonade
• Hot Rod Grill - hot dogs, hamburgers & french fries
• Sweet Eliza’s Donuts - donuts
• Patriot Pizza & Pretzels - pizza & pretzels
• Pit Boss BBQ - brisket, pulled pork & chicken
• Two Guys Nomadic Grill - sandwiches, subs & onion rings
• Lulu’s Café - Mexican: tacos & nachos
• On the Roll - spaghetti roll, pulled pork roll
• Tice BBQ - breakfast sandwiches, muffins, coffee & turkey legs
Some other activities scheduled on the Intermediate School grounds include:
• A kids area, Scotts Busy Youth 4-H Lemonade, Miquela’s Sno Cones, Operation Heaven Sent Circus Tent. kids games, bounce houses, Face Painting by Gina, Balloon Weister, Open Arms Petting Zoo, Critchlow’s Alligator Sanctuary from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., and a corn hole tournament that starts at 11 a.m. are planned.
