Huge turnout for Climax Memorial Day parade, activities

The Climax-Scotts American Legion Post #465 Color Guard led the Memorial Day parade in Climax.

A large crowd that lined South and North Main Street, Cherry, and Church Streets in the Village of Climax enjoyed the annual Memorial Day parade as well as many other activities May 25 in the village.

The holiday started with the 31st Annual Run to Climax 7K and 1 mile Fun Run, hosted by the Climax-Scotts PTO. The Run to Climax event drew more than 100 participants.

The Memorial Day parade, sponsored by Climax-Scotts American Legion Post #465, was over an hour long and drew many parade participants.

Village of Climax resident Leota Sunnock, who turned 100 years old last December, was the grand marshall of the parade.

There was a brief wreath laying ceremony performed by Galesburg-Augusta/Climax-Scotts Scout Troop 265 in the Village Park following the parade.

Another ceremony was held in Prairie Home Cemetery following the parade. Aaron Valentine was the featured speaker at the ceremony, Isaac Valentine gave the invocation, and 11-year-old Edward Valentine played taps.

There was a huge turnout for  activities after the parade at the  C-S Intermediate School that included kid games, an animal petting zoo, vendors, food trucks and the Sunset Cruisers Car Club car and motorcycle car show.
