Retired G-A teacher will be parade grand marshal June 20
Retired Galesburg-Augusta teacher Ardis Cook will be the Greater Galesburg Day parade grand marshal on June 20.
Cook, who taught at G-A for over 25 years, was also the Lady Ram varsity volleyball coach from 1987 to 2006.
Cook, along with G-A graduates Donna Adams and Karen Wilson, helped get the G-A Inspirational Alumni Award off the ground after former G-A High School Principal Christie Robinson suggested the idea.
The Greater Galesburg Day parade will begin at 11 a.m. Lineup will begin at the G-A Primary School any time after 10 a.m.
There will be a decorated bike contest, sponsored by Dreamers Furniture, before the parade. Judging will take place at 10:30 a.m. sharp behind the Dreamers Furniture box truck during the parade lineup.
Besides the parade, Greater Galesburg Days will feature music, food vendors, community-wide garage sales and more June 18-20.
The community-wide garage sales will be held June 18-20.
Most of the activities will take place Saturday, June 20.

A yard sale at the Congregational United Church of Christ, located at 22 S. Church Street, will be held during the day June 20.
There will be plenty of activities after the parade behind City Hall and inside the fire station. Visitors will find bounce houses, sponsored by the Galesburg Downtown Development Authority, a foam machine, a fireman’s challenge for adults and kids sponsored by the Galesburg-Charleston Fire Department, a craft and vendor show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. sponsored by Operation Heaven Sent (a non-profit business), an ice cream social in the fire station sponsored by the Galesburg-Augusta Business and Community Association, and live music from noon to 3 p.m. at the fire station.
