Wild Wednesdays offer a chance for kids to grow

Families with children are invited to this summer’s Wild Wednesday series at the W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary. Kids can join a naturalist along the trail for a fun, interactive activity, then enjoy a nature-themed craft or more chances to explore the outdoors. While all ages are welcome, the program is geared toward children ages 3-8.

All programs run from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on select Wednesdays at the Sanctuary, with no advance registration required. Admission is free for Sanctuary members, and standard admission is charged for non-members ($6/adult, $5/student or senior, and $4/child; free for children under the age of 2).

The Wild Wednesday themes include:

• June 24: Soil life
• July 1: Birdy bites and beak types
• July 8: Bird detective
• July 15: Slither science
• July 22: Seed adventures

The Bird Sanctuary is located at 12685 E. C Avenue in Augusta.  To learn more, visit birdsanctuary.kbs.msu.edu or call 269-671-2510.

The W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary’s mission is to conserve native habitat for migratory and resident birds and to promote environmental awareness through research, education and outreach. Since 1928, the Sanctuary has served as a practical training school for animal care and land management, and remains an innovator in wildlife conservation efforts.

As Michigan State University’s largest off-campus educational complex, KBS has put its land-grant values into practice for nearly a century, providing the public with examples of science’s crucial role in sustaining natural and managed communities. KBS students and faculty work to understand and solve real-world environmental problems for a better tomorrow. To learn more, visit kbs.msu.edu.
