A golf fundraiser last Saturday hosted by the Climax Township Fire & Rescue Association had a scary moment that ended with a positive outcome, leaving a local Fire Chief thankful firefighters were on the scene to assist his wife.
According to Climax Township Fire Chief Scott Smith, his wife, Tracy, was helping prepare food for the 15th annual Climax Fire & Rescue Association golf outing fundraiser at Cedar Creek Golf Course.
Smith, who was participating in the fundraiser on the golf course, said his wife was near the clubhouse eating a bratwurst and started choking. He said former Climax Township Fire Chief Steve Johnson observed Tracy was having trouble and asked if she was o.k. When Tracy shook her head indicating she was not o.k. because she could not speak, Johnson started the Heimlich maneuver. His grandson, Ryan Johnson, a member of the City of Battle Creek Fire Department, continued the maneuver and got the item dislodged.

New Elementary School Teacher Hired
The Climax-Scotts Board of Education faced a light agenda at its regular meeting Monday, but did learn one teaching vacancy at the elementary school has been filled. C-S Superintendent of Schools Doug Newington said a vacancy at the elementary school was created after second grade teacher Sandy Wagner informed the district at the end of the school year about her intentions of retiring.
Newington said Wagner was scheduled to be moved to teach first grade in the fall, however with her retirement announcement, the district hired Johanna Vosburg to teach at the first grade level.

From the July 23, 1926 Climax CrescentCLIMAX HOME COMING
August 20th and 21st
At a meeting Wednesday evening it was decided to hold a Home Coming again this year and set the dates for August 20 and 21. A paper is being circulated to raise about the annual amount of funds and plans are getting under way to make the Climax Celebration bigger and better than ever, baring bad weather.
Herbert Smith was elected general chairman of the event with sub committees to take charge of the different departments of the work and with the general cooperation and enthusiasm of all and the advertising of the past Home Comings which always more than fulfilled what they advertised. Everything indicates that the 5th Annual Home Coming will undoubtedly even exceed last year. Begin now to make your plans for coming both days and don’t forget to help advertise by telling all your friends.
Many Go To Olivet Sunday
Over fifty from this vicinity motored to Olivet last Sunday and inspected their new school building.
The question of a new school building is being quite generally discussed.
It seems to be the opinion of many that Climax badly needs a new school building and it is foolish economy to keep spending money on the present building which will eventually be money thrown away. On the other hand building a new school building adequate for the present and near future needs of this community is quite a problem. Having foremost in our minds the good of the boys and girls, the interest of the community and taxpayers.
Many people wonder why in as fertile a community and as good a school center as Climax how long it will be before our school will be on a par with neighboring villages, or are we gradually going to slip backward to the point that what was good enough for our forefathers is plenty good enough for our children, notwithstanding the fact most of them are driving an automobile instead of oxen.
Climax Ball News
