Four local races will be contested after candidates filed an affidavit of identity and a non-partisan nominating petition by the 4 p.m., July 21 deadline to have their names appear on the November 3 general election ballot or filed a $100 nonrefundable fee in lieu of a petition.
Six candidates will be on the ballot running for three, four-year seats on the Climax-Scotts Board of Education in the November 3 election.
Two candidates will be on the ballot running for the two-year mayor seat in the City of Galesburg.
Five candidates will be on the ballot running for three, four-year trustee terms on the Village of Augusta Council.
In the Athens School District, five candidates will be running for four, four-year seats on the Athens School Board and two candidates are running for one partial term seat.
There still is an opportunity for candidates to run as a write-in.
Write-in candidates’ Declaration of Intent form for the November 3 election is due to the respective filing official Friday, October 23, at 4 p.m.
In the Climax-Scotts School District, three, four-year terms are open. The seats of Steve Wurtzel, Terri VandeGiessen, and Matt Birkam expire December 31, 2026.
According to the Kalamazoo County Clerk and Register of Deeds website, incumbent Terri VandeGiessen, Kevin Langs, Tiffanie Myers, Dominic Bushouse, Amanda Eyre, and Garrett Meade will be on the November 3 ballot running for three seats.
In the G-A School District, incumbents Christy Corsi, Sarah Davidson, Diana Shoup, and Laura Wilks will be on the November 3 ballot running for four, four-year seats.
In the City of Galesburg, current trustees Ryan Harnden and Glen Hawes are running for a two-year mayor seat.
There are also three, four-year trustee seats on the Galesburg City Council that are up for election in November.
Judy Finnie is the lone candidate who filed paper work by the July 21 deadline for a City Council seat.
In the Village of Augusta, Andy Ackley, Kim Carlton, Ann Daly, Kelsey Kooiker, and Randy Padgett will be on the ballot running for three four-year seats.
The Climax Village Council will have three, four year seats up for election.
According to the Kalamazoo County Clerk and Register of Deeds website, David Dell, Joshua Fleischer, and Mark E. Waterhouse will be on the November 3 ballot.
Five candidates filed paperwork by the July 21 deadline to be on the November 3 ballot for four four-year seats on the Athens School Board and two candidates will be running for one partial term ending December 31, 2028.
Wendy Converse, Judi Henckel, Jeffrey A. Penick, Hilary Setlak, and Karlee Wheeler will be running for four four-year seats on the Athens Board of Education.
Perry Dervan and Sam Wheeler will be running for one partial term seat on the Athens School Board.
The deadline for district library board candidates (for library districts that include a school district) to file an Affidavit of Identity and a nominating petition is Tuesday, August 11, at 4 p.m. (A $100 nonrefundable fee may be filed in lieu of a petition.) Withdrawal deadline elapses at 4 p.m. on August 14.
