Local residents enjoyed a 10-bout USA Amateur boxing event held at Galesburg-Augusta High School August 1.
Besides some great boxing, recognitions and remembering boxers who passed away were part of the event.
Longtime local boxing legend Oliver Lewis, who passed away June 13, 2026, and King Gildersleeve, a boxer from Flint Town Boxing Club, who passed away July 4, 2026, were recognized with a 10-bell count.
Kalamazoo Eastside Boxing recognized Indiana Police Athletic League Coach Alberto Lozano for supporting the efforts to improve the lives of Youth through Amateur Boxing.
After winning his Elite Male Division bout, Evan Jackson, of Kalamazoo Boxing, was named the Dr. Jack Hunt Outstanding Boxer of the Night.
There were two developmental bouts (one Intermediate male Novice bout and one Junior Male Novice bout), one Intermediate Male Novice bout, three Senior Novice bouts, two Junior Male Novice bouts and two Elite Male Division bouts.
