Climax-Scotts Community Schools is proud to announce Ernie Ramirez as the new Girls Varsity Basketball Coach for the Panthers basketball program.
Coach Ramirez brings more than 17 years of high school and travel basketball coaching experience to Climax-Scotts. Throughout his career, he has coached student athletes at multiple levels and has demonstrated a strong commitment to skill development, program building, and helping young athletes grow both on and off the court.
His previous high school coaching experience includes positions at Mendon, Paw Paw, Comstock, Rockford, Fennville, Zeeland East, Allendale, and Three Rivers.
Most recently, Ramirez led Mendon’s girls varsity basketball team to a district championship during the 2024–2025 season. After beginning the season 3–7, the team finished the regular season by winning nine of its final 13 games before advancing through the district tournament.
During two seasons as the girls varsity head coach at Paw Paw, Ramirez’s teams earned 27 combined victories and finished second in the Wolverine Conference both seasons. His student-athletes also received team and individual academic recognition, along with multiple All-Conference and All-Area honors.
Coach Ramirez’s approach emphasizes year-round player development, individual skill training, and building a strong program from the youth level through varsity competition. He has extensive experience organizing camps, offseason workouts, tournaments, team-building activities, and personalized training opportunities. His practices focus on fundamental skill development while preparing players to understand and execute the offensive and defensive systems used during competition.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to become part of the Panther Family and work with the student-athletes at Climax-Scotts,” said Ramirez. “My goal is to build a program where players are challenged to improve their basketball skills, support one another as teammates, and grow into confident young adults with strong character. I look forward to getting into the gym and building relationships throughout the program.”
A Holland native and Holland High School graduate, Ramirez now lives in Kalamazoo with his wife, Luz. They have two adult children, Marcus and Marissa. In addition to coaching, Ramirez works at Zoetis, where he leads a department involved in developing medications for companion animals.
Climax-Scotts administration is excited to welcome Coach Ramirez to Panther athletics. His extensive coaching background, commitment to player development, and enthusiasm for working with young athletes make him an excellent fit to lead the girls basketball program.
