Work on a new housing project in the City of Galesburg that is projected to be completed in the summer of 2028 is well underway.
Dirt moving for the housing project located on Battle Creek Street and Blake Street is underway and the next phase is expected to begin soon.
Allen Edwin Homes plans to build 46 single family homes and six duplex units on 13.78 acres of vacant land across from the Galesburg-Augusta Primary School.
There will be 22 income restricted units for 10 years in the development with 52 being single family homes. An additional 30 units will be for sale and 22 for rent at the incoming qualifying level.
Brian Farkas, vice president of Workforce Housing for Allen-Edwin Home Builders said paving is scheduled for early October. He adds foundation work is scheduled to start before the end of the year.
Farkas said the property values would range from $325,000 to $355,000 when completed.
The three duplex structures will be constructed on a 1.5 acre property at 231 Blake Boulevard, where the old high school was located.
Allen Edwin Homes will invest an estimated $17.1 million into the project, which includes infrastructure like roads, sidewalks, water, and sewer that will support the housing development.
Earlier this year, the Galesburg City Council approved a site development plan for the housing project at a May 11 meeting.
