The Climax Village Council faced a light agenda at its regular meeting September 1, but one upcoming event for village residents to participate in was noted.
The fall curbside trash pickup event for Best Way customers in the Village is scheduled for Saturday, October 10.
The Council asks that items remain covered until the items can be placed at the curbside, three days before the pickup.
A reminder that mattresses and box springs will need a cover. Mattress and box spring covers can be obtained at a mattress store or purchased from a moving business.
Finance/Insurance/Administration Report
Finance/Insurance/Administration Chairperson Denise Pyle said there are still some adjustments being made on the Safebuilt contract with the village. It is hopeful the Council will have a copy of the new contract to consider at the September 15 meeting.
Safebuilt provides zoning, permit and ordinance services to the Village of Climax.
Public Safety/Fire/Law Enforcement/Disaster Planning Report
Public Safety/Fire/Law Enforcement/Disaster Planning Chairman Nick Ludwig reports there has been suspected theft of Amazon packages in mail boxes and front porches in Scotts.
He adds there has been reports of someone firing pellets at vehicles in Climax Township. The Kalamazoo County Sheriff Office has been notified and is investigating.
Ludwig said the Kalamazoo County Sheriff Department monthly report notes there were five citizen initiated calls for service in the Village for the month of August (two trouble with subject, one alarm, one trespassing, one assist other department and one disturbance/fight) and four officer initiated calls for service (three direct patrol, one follow up and one vehicle inspection).
DPW Report
Department of Public Works Manager T.J. Gibson reports water samples and pumpage reports have been done for the month.
Chip seal projects on Cherry, Sheldon, South Church, and Hancock Streets have been completed.
Sidewalks identified to be replaced on East Maple and North Church Street have been removed. Framing and pouring cement has been completed.
Two trees the council approved to be removed on North Church Street were scheduled to be removed September 2.
The new motor in pump house number 3 was installed and is running correctly.
Leave Vac maintenance has started so the equipment will be ready in the fall.
Ordinance/Zoning/Planning & Development Report
Ordinance/Zoning/Planning & Development Chairperson Carolyn Kelly reports there were no ordinance complaints received by the Village since the last Council meeting. She reminds the public complaint forms are available at the Village Hall. Office hours are Monday and Wednesday morning or you may call the Village Hall.
In another item discussed at the September 1 meeting:
There will be one more Movie in the Park September 12 at dusk.
