Freedom Truck Coming to Galesburg Charleston Township Library Sept. 22-23

The Freedom Truck is coming to Galesburg.

Based on the concept of the Freedom Train – one of the most memorable and educational aspects of the bicentennial – Freedom Trucks are traveling mobile museums that bring history to life with inspiring, factual content, including digital and interactive material. With engaging elements such as quizzes, a kiosk to sign names digitally to the Declaration of Independence, and a wall of 50 American heroes, these exhibits celebrate the remarkable achievements that 250 years have made possible.

The mobile museum will be at the Galesburg Charleston Township Memorial District Library on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 22-23.

“The Library is thrilled to host the Freedom Truck, and we encourage everyone to come out for this once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Library Director Helena Hayes. “I remember visiting the Freedom Train as a child during the bicentennial in 1976, so I was excited at the prospect of bringing this experience to children in our community.”

The Freedom Trucks were made possible by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) awarded to America250, the bipartisan organization charged by Congress to lead the commemoration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Hours of operation will be between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day. The Library is located at 188 E. Michigan Avenue in Galesburg.  The truck will be in the parking lot behind the Fire Department.  The event is free to the public and is ADA accessible.
