Macomb County authorities say 37-year-old Daniel Minnick of Roseville pleaded no contest as charged to several felonies related to an incident at the Roseville Police Station last year..
Last October 13, at approximately 4:30 a.m., authorities say Minnick waited in his vehicle in the Roseville Police Department parking lot until three officers exited the station and entered their patrol vehicles.
Minnick then drove at a high rate of speed, striking an officer’s vehicle and injuring the officer. When officers approached, they saw Minnick armed with a large knife.
After he refused commands to drop the knife and ran toward an officer, two officers shot Minnick to stop him. Minnick is paralyzed from the chest down, unable to walk, and in a wheelchair due to injuries he suffered during the incident.
Last Thursday, Minnick pleaded no contest to the following charges before Judge Matthew Sabaugh of the Macomb County Circuit Court:
Weapons – Dangerous Weapon – Carrying with Unlawful Intent, a 5-year felony
Two Counts - Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, a 4-year felony
Malicious Destruction of Fire or Police Property, a 4-year felony.
Sabaugh accepted Minnick’s plea pursuant to a Cobbs agreement of no incarceration. A Cobbs agreement is between the defendant and the judge.
Minnick is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 4.
