Three G-A cross country runners
post personal best times
Three members of the Galesburg-Augusta cross country team posted personal best times at a SAC jamboree at Fennville September 16.
Sophomore Segura Lopez was the first Ram to cross the finish line for the boys, finishing 40th out of a field of 138 runners with a personal best time of 19:04.22.
While the Lady Rams did not have enough runners to score as a team, two runners recorded personal best times and another Ram had a season best time.
G-A sophomore Sophia Dohm ran the course in a season best time of 23:44.79 in 47th place out of a field of 127 runners and was G-A’s first finisher.
Neva Freed (26:50.00) and Addison Walden (35:41) posted personal best times for the girls.
Saugatuck won the mens meet with 44 points. G-A was 14th with 349 points.
Saugatuck also won the womens run with 58 points. G-A did not have enough runners to score as a team.

G-A volleyball team falls
to Hackett, defeats Martin
The Galesburg-Augusta varsity volleyball team fell to a very talented Hackett squad September 17 in three sets on the road, 11-25, 14-25, 26-28,
G-A coach Jonica Klimp said some of her players struggled against Hackett’s aggressive offense but the team continues to strive for improvement.
“We take every loss as a chance to get better and fine-tune certain things to get ready for post-season play,” said the Lady Ram coach.
Lily Gilbert had a team high 14 digs and led the team in kills with seven. Lexi Coburn led the team with 14 assists, Ellesa Callender and Kayla Bortolussi each had two blocks and Callender had one ace.

Lady Rams Sweep Martin
The Galesburg-Augusta varsity volleyball team swept Martin in the first conference match of the season for the Lady Rams at G-A High School September 15.
G-A prevailed in three sets, 25-19, 25-10, 25-13.
Lily Gilbert had a team leading eight kills and shared the team lead in aces with four and digs, with eight. Audrey Dennis had eight digs, Ellesa Callender had four aces, Kayla Bortolussi and Jeni Klimp led the team with three blocks each and Lexi Coburn had 22 assists.

G-A JV football team falls to Saugatuck
The Galesburg-Augusta JV football team dropped a close 15-14 decision to Saugatuck on the road September 16.
Donaven Tiffany teamed up with Kody Watson for a long touchdown pass and Tiffany also scored a rushing touchdown.
G-A coach Les Brewer notes Gabe Smith had a couple of long receptions.
G-A entered a home game against Centreville September 24 with a 1-2 record. The Rams will then play at Decatur October 1.
Rams start season 4-0 for first time
since 1985; overpower Colts

The Galesburg-Augusta Rams played their first home game on September 18 and delighted the Ram Fan crowd with a 53-12 lopsided win over Comstock at Maskill Stadium.
With the win the Rams improve their record to 4-0, the first G-A team to do so since the 1985 season, and keep possession of the G-A/Comstock Cup. The cup has been fought over 60 times since its inception in 1925.
It took the Rams just 5 plays to get the game’s first score, a 43 yard scamper by senior Giovanni Evans. Patrick Armock scored the two point conversion on a run giving G-A an 8-0 lead just two minutes into the game.
After a couple of runs, 15 and 11 yards, the Ram defense dug in and forced the Colt offense into a fourth and 9 at the Ram 30 yard line. A loss of 5 yards gave the ball back to G-A at its own 35 yard line.
G-A drove 65 yards in 8 plays, with the big play a 43 yard pass from Armock to Alex Krugh on a third and 5 play. Evans notched his second touchdown of the night on a 1 yard plunge with Ronald Kasten running for the point after try and a 16-0 Ram lead with seconds left to play in the first quarter.
Comstock’s next possession started with a 13 yard run followed by three incomplete passes and a punt giving G-A the ball back at its own 24 yard line. The Rams put together a 17 play 76 yard drive that consumed nearly 8 minutes of the clock. Colton Robertson scored from the one yard line and Armock’s two-point run extended their lead to 24-0.
On the Colt’s next possession J.J. Bailey intercepted quarterback D.J. Rankin’s pass at midfield and returned it to the Comstock 25 yard line. Robertson rushed for 14 yards, Evans for 7 and Greg Buckner the final 2 yards for another Ram score. Foreign exchange student, Corentim LaHard added his first of three point after kicks, swelling the G-A lead to 31-0.
After a three and out for the Colts the ensuing punt was muffed by the Rams giving Comstock a first down at the G-A 20 yard line. Rankins threw three incompletions before connecting with Kedan Duff for a 20 yard fourth down touchdown pass.
After the Colt kickoff G-A took possession of the ball at its own 29 yard line with 44 seconds on the first half clock. Armock passed to Krugh for 23 yards, Kasten for 23 more and Cayden Allie for 14 giving the Rams a first down at the Comstock 9 yard line. Unfortunately time ran out but the teams entered halftime with G-A in command 31-6.
On the first play of the second half Rankins attempted a quick sideline pass. The G-A’s Ronald Kasten was quicker as he stepped in front of the Colt receiver intercepting the pass and taking it 24 yards for a Ram touchdown. Evans ran for the two point conversion giving G-A a 39-6 lead 17 seconds into the quarter.
Comstock’s next drive started at its own 35 yard line. Two completions gave the Colts a first down at the Ram 30 yard line. Two incompletions and a holding penalty forced the visitors to punt.
G-A took possession at its own 20 yard line. A five minute, 12 play drive was capped off with a 5 yard Evans touchdown and the extra point kick by LaHard put G-A up by a 46-6 margin with 2:51 left in the third.
It took the Colts just two plays on their next possession to put points on the board. Rankins found his favorite target, Duff, open over the middle and the two combined for a 47 yard touchdown.
The failed attempt for the points after left Comstock (0-4) on the short end of a 46-12 score.
The Rams started their last drive of the game from their own 41 yard line. An eleven play drive finished the last minute of the third quarter and took up 6 minutes of the fourth. Staying on the ground it was Dominic Corsi going the final three yards for the game’s final score and a 53-12 G-A win.
G-A dominated the rushing game with 307 yards on 58 attempts. Evans led the rushers with 121 yards. Robertson picked up 69 yards, Buckner 53 and Armock 44. The Colts were held to 49 rushing yards on 13 attempts. Armock completed 5 of 10 passes for 115 yards, all in the first half.
Corsi was G-A’s top defender with 11 tackles. Tristan Jackson and Colton Robertson had 5 tackles each. J.J. Bailey had two interceptions and Ronald Kasten had one pick six.
The Rams are back on the road September 25 traveling to Centreville for a 7 p.m. game.
