Association to present scholarships to law students

The Jewish Bar Association of Michigan will honor two outstanding law students at JBAM's free online awards event on Tuesday, May 25, at 6 p.m.

Each student will receive a $1,500 scholarship from JBAM.  This year's recipients are Jessica Davidova and Chase O. Yarber.

Davidova is a student at Wayne State University Law School where she is president of the International Law Student Association.

The daughter of immigrants from Azerbaijan, she is an editor of the Michigan International Lawyer publication of the State Bar of Michigan.

Prior to law school, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in Tel Aviv to help improve intercultural relations. She is currently a fellow at the Detroit Center for Civil Discourse.

Yarber is a student at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.

He has clerked at several law firms and is currently at Honigman LLP.

Last year, he was an extern to Michigan Supreme Court Justice Brian K. Zahra. At Detroit Mercy Law, he ranks near the top of his class, and he participates in Law Review and Moot Court.

Also at the awards event, JBAM will present its Ruth Bader Ginsburg Champion of Justice Award to Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and its Lifetime Achievement Award to retired Judge Avern Cohn of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
