One court vacancy filled, applicants sought for another

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has announced the appointment of Teri Lynn Dennings, the employment and employee benefits attorney for Consumers Energy Co., to Macomb County Circuit Court.

Dennings will take the seat of Judge Mark Switalski, whose retirement takes effect Jan. 7.

Prior to her post at Consumers, the Warren resident and graduate of Wayne State University Law School worked as a senior litigation attorney with Deldin Law PLLC, a labor and employment associate attorney
with Miller Cohen PLC, and a labor and employment senior associate with Kitch, Drutchas, Wagner, Valitutti & Sherbrook, PC.

Dennings is a member of the Macomb County Bar Association, Women Lawyers Association of Michigan and Black Women Lawyers Association of Michigan.

Meanwhile, applications are sought for the seat on Macomb County Probate Court being vacated by Judge Kathryn George. Her retirement also takes effect in January.

A judicial appointment questionnaire and other documents must be submitted using the online portal at www.michigan.gov/appointments and received by 5 p.m. on Thursday Jan. 6.


National Day of Healing from Racism hosted online by WSU

In the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Wayne State University Law School’s Detroit Equity Action Lab, Wayne State’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and the Office of Multicultural Student Engagement are collaborating on Tuesday, Jan. 18, for the National Day of Healing from Racism.

A series of virtual events will be hosted in an effort to heal the wounds created by racial, ethnic, and religious bias and build an equitable and just society where everyone can thrive.

Various virtual sessions will be held throughout the day, so registrants are encouraged to participate as their schedule allows.

‘The Radium Girls’ topic of next WLAM book club meeting

The Women Lawyers Association of Michigan will present its next Literary Ladies Book Club online Wednesday, Jan. 26, from 6 to 7 p.m. via Zoom.

For the January meeting, the club will be discussing “The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women” by Kate Moore.
