Top officials from the government’s chief financial organizations, including the Federal Reserve Board and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, will highlight the American Bar Association’s 2016 Banking Law Committee Winter Meeting, Jan. 7-9 in Washington, D.C.
Commissioner J. Christopher Giancarlo of the Federal Trade Commission will be the program’s keynote luncheon speaker on Friday, Jan. 8, from 12:15-1:45 p.m.

Friday, Jan. 8:
“Agency General Counsels Discussion” — Panelists will review the most critical issues facing the banking agencies, as well as report on recent interpretive letters, rulemakings and enforcement actions. Speakers are Scott Alvarez, general counsel, Federal Reserve Board; Amy Friend, chief counsel, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency; Stephen Van Meter, deputy general counsel for Law and Policy, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau; and Charles Yi, general counsel, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
“Stress-Testing and CCAR: What It Is and What In-House and Outside Counsel Need to Know” — This panel includes in-house and outside counsel on the frontlines of the CCAR process who will offer their expertise and lessons learned for those new to the process. Speakers include Ben McDonough, senior counsel, Federal Reserve Board.
“Developments in Bank Litigation and Enforcement” — Dan Stipano, deputy chief counsel in the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, will be among panelists who will explore key developments in bank D&O liability and indemnity issues.
“Consumer Protection, Fair Lending and Update” — Leading practitioners and agency representatives, including Tony Alexis, director of Enforcement at Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, discuss enforcement trends, including recent CFPB and U.S. Department of Justice settlements regarding “redlining” and disparate impact allegations, new CFPB supervision of larger nonbank auto finance companies and other updates.
Saturday, Jan. 9:
“AML/Sanctions Regulation and Enforcement Update” — Panelists, including representatives from the Federal Reserve and the U.S. Department of Treasury, will review recent developments and changes in the anti-money laundering and sanctions compliance landscape.
“View from the Hill” — With the start of the second session of the 114th Congress and the presidential primary season in full swing, this panel offers outlook for the legislative agenda affecting the financial services industry. Speakers are Jelena McWilliams, majority chief counsel, Senate Banking Committee; and Jared Sawyer, professional staff, House Financial Services Committee, Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit.
